When the film was first launched in 2007, it starred Shiney Ahuja, Lara Dutta, Soha Ali Khan ( Esha Deol was in the running for Soha's role). The film was shelved due to financial reasons. When it was revived Shiney was replaced due to the controversy surrounding him, Lara Dutta was married and taking a break, Soha Ali Khan was no longer interested in the film.
Sudhir Mishra wanted to title the film "Dasdev" (Devdas backwards).
The film was in production for almost 4 years
The film is mixture adaption of both Devdas and Hamlet.
The film did not have a theatrical release in British Columbia, Canada.
