Well, I hope you guys have been saving your pennies, because there are a lot of great horror and sci-fi titles coming home on March 14th. Scream Factory is giving Firestarter the Collector’s Edition treatment this week, and both Drive-In Massacre and The Skull are being resurrected in HD as well.
If you missed them during their theatrical runs late last year, both The Love Witch and Paul Verhoeven’s award-winning thriller Elle are getting Blu-ray / DVD releases this Tuesday, and Demon Seed is making its way to Blu-ray as well (which I highly recommend watching if you haven't).
Other notable home entertainment titles for March 14th include Passengers, Z Nation Season 3, Johnny Frank Garrett’s Last Word, Stray Bullets, and The Man Who Could Cheat Death.
Drive-In Massacre (Severin Films, Blu-ray & DVD)

Look, I'm not a parent, but if I were, and if my teenage child expressed a desire to make a feature film, I hope I would respond as did Larry Fessenden. Not only did the indie filmmaker say yes to his kid's passion project, but he also produced it and acted in it. By now, Larry Fessenden's name should be familiar to all genre fans, but as a reminder, his credits include Wendigo, Habit, Wendy and Lucy, and many more. He's known as the mentoring type, which means he's more than willing to help both friends and budding filmmakers. Ok, enough blathering: we have three alternate posters to debut for Jack Fessenden's Stray Bullets and they are all kinda dazzling. Jack Fessenden wrote and directed...

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Bomb, bomb bomb bomb, Boooooomb! Things just kept getting worse and worse at the box office as this past weekend saw more new releases not meeting up to their potential. The horribly-reviewed horror movie Rings (Paramount) ended up around where I predicted with $13 million, taking second place to M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. The sci-fi romance The Space Between Us (Stx Entertainment) didn’t make much of a mark, opening in ninth place with just $3.8 million with about $1,300 per theater. Robert De Niro’s The Comedian (Sony Classics) tanked worse than many recent movies, making less than a million in 848 theaters or about $1,000 per theater. By comparison, the doc I Am Not Your Negro made about 78% of that amount in 800 less theaters.

"My understanding is we've got a bit of a situation..." A trailer has debuted for a film titled Stray Bullets, from young filmmaker Jack Fessenden, son of Larry Fessenden. Not to be confused with the comic book series Stray Bullets, this crime thriller is about two teenaged boys who end up in a fight against a hitman while being held hostage by three criminals they discover hiding out in their father's old mobile home. Jack Fessenden stars along with Asa Spurlock, including James Le Gros, John Speredakos, and Kevin Corrigan, with an appearance by Larry Fessenden. This looks solid, better than expected for a first film. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Jack Fessenden's Stray Bullets, found on YouTube (via Tmb): In upstate New York, two teenage boys (Jack Fessenden, Asa Spurlock) are tasked with cleaning out their father's old mobile home on an abandoned property, but the...

Jodorowsky actor directorial debut to be presented at new co-production event; Reygadas curates for Filmfest Hamburg.
Argentinian actor Leandro Taub’s directorial debut The Dream of the Guest and Slovenian filmmaker Jan Cvitkovic’s new feature film Mercedes Fire Horse are among the projects to be presented at a new co-production event, the Matchbox Coproduction Lounge, during this year’s Oldenburg International Film Festival (Sept 14-18).
Matchbox’s inaugural edition will also present Buddy Giovinazzo’s Potsdamer Platz which had been the last project, which the late Tony Scott had optioned to direct.
Taub, who was a lead actor in veteran Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Cannes competition film Endless Poetry this year, wrote the screenplay for the comedy drama which centres on how a family’s life changes dramatically when a special guest, claiming to be building a space ship, moves into their home to “confront them” with his strong belief in the possibility of the...
