Elijah's Ashes

Director/writer - Ryan Barton-Grimley does a perfectly fine job with this budget movie about two brothers, who are total opposites in personality, are tasked with taking their deceased fathers ashes to his requested burial location.

The budget shows but the story succeeds in showing how these two brothers learn to get along. The slapstick might be a little dry and the personalities of the brothers comes off a bit lacking in some scenes. But as a whole I find the movie rather entertaining.

This film is excruciating. There is not one character that is not cliched and uninteresting. I had absolutely no interest in them or what was happening in their lives (or deaths) How did it get an average rating of 7.6?

I am a little conflicted as to how to review this. I almost stopped watching at the beginning , it wasn't working for me but when the two brothers come together it improved tremendously. The interaction between the characters of the brothers is what really drives the movie. In the end it's really just a movie about family , albeit an extremely dysfunctional one. There are some good lines spread throughout the whole thing but what ruins it a little is the end, where it just seems to run out of steam and stop. Did the brother have this letter from their father the whole time ? If so why didn't he give it to Lawrence earlier and if he didn't have it where did it suddenly come from in the car? I'm not sure , I chose to enjoy the journey even if the final destination was somewhat of a disappointment. I gave it a 7, maybe it deserves less but I quite enjoyed it in the mood I was in when I saw it. If you sometimes enjoy an imperfect cinematic romp give it a try.
