Irul involves three characters played by Fahad, Soubin and Darshana inside a house where the discovery of a dead body creates tension among the three.
Credits shows writers list include 4 or 5 people. They did end up having decent dialogues included uet couldn't seal the plotholes.
Fahad as usual, did a wonderful job where he created curiosity in the beginning and tension post an hour. Darshana seems to have done a good job yet was irritating at times which is pretty fine.
The technical department and production set of the film is amazing considering the Covid protocol mediated limitations.
The only con apart from plotholes in the film is Soubin who not only struggles to keep up with Fahad and Darshana but also fails in conveying proper emotions when needed. He is unsure what to emote during scenes with Darshana in the car, the annoying "electrocuted by calling bell" scene, his appearance which ill fits his young character ( he does show his 40yrs of age) and worst of all his dialogue delivery which is apt only for 'Saji' from Kumbalangi Nights. Soubin is not able to improve his voice and dialogues even after failed performance in Ambili, Trance, and Android Kunjappan. Even Nivin Pauly who stayed in comfortable comic romeo typecast proved himself with Moothon after classes from Mumbai. Soubin should either improve or should reconsider his acting career. Even his monotonous comic roles has become irritating after 5 years.
Overall a good directorial debut, decent writing, great performances and cleverly cut down run time.
Srinath Bhasi/ Roshan Mathew could've replaced Soubin and it would've been a good thriller.
