In 1997, in Ribeirão Preto, the "carioca" (people born in Rio de Janeiro) Júlio (Murilo Benício) kidnaps Noeli (Camila Morgado) during her arranged wedding. They live together and Noeli is considered black sheep by her father. Noeli uses her tomato receipt to prepare a successful tomato juice, and they build a successful factory called Juno. Twenty years later, they are rich with two children, but their marriage is in crisis. When the car of Julio runs out of gas, he leaves Noeli in a sugar cane plantation and walks home. Tired, he sleeps with his little daughter and Noeli is forced to walk home. She decides to divorce him, and he hires the best lawyer in Ribeirão Preto to defend him, while she travels to São Paulo to hire the best lawyer in São Paulo. Now their dispute begins.
"Divórcio" (2017) is a promising movie directed by Pedro Amorim. I was expecting to see a story like "The War of the Roses" (1989) after watching the promising beginning. Unfortunately, the conclusion is corny and spoils the plot. Murilo Benício wearing a prosthesis in his mouth is horrible and gives the sensation of a stupid man. Camila Morgado is funny with the accent of people from the countryside of São Paulo. Most of the plot is funny, despite the cartoonish appearance of Murilo Benício. It is hard to understand why he has accepted to use such ridiculous prosthesis. My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): "Divórcio" ("Divorce")
