Jennifer Deaton has been called "unreasonably optimistic" by The New York Times and "too nice" by her sister-in-law.
Her first feature film JACK OF THE RED HEARTS, starring Famke Janssen and AnnaSophia Robb, was released in theaters nationwide in 2016 and is now available on DVD and digital streaming platforms. It won the Jury Award at the Geena Davis Institute's Bentonville Film Festival Championing Women in Film. The film has accumulated awards from various film festivals, including Best Screenplay at the Golden Door International Film Festival.
Jennifer Deaton has been honing her story chops for years as a Story Analyst (M.P.E.G) for Focus Features, and previously as a creative executive and/or reader for various production companies, including those of Sandra Bullock, Adam Sandler, Bill Pullman, and Odd Lot Entertainment. Her earliest film industry experience was working as a bright-eyed grunt for acclaimed producer Laura Ziskin and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Alvin Sargent.
Deaton has many more stories of her own to write. She was selected as a Fellow in the Outfest Film Festival's Screenwriting Lab and now serves on its jury. Her script PENTIMENTI also won the Atlanta Film Festival's screenplay competition and was named a Semifinalist in the Academy's prestigious Nicholl Fellowship - placing in the top 30 of nearly 5,000 submissions. Her script SENSATIONAL awarded her the Writers Arc Foundation Fellowship, during which she wrote the screenplay which would become JACK OF THE RED HEARTS.
JACK OF THE RED HEARTS is screening internationally as part of the U.S. State Department's American Film Showcase in partnership with USC, using film as a catalyst for engagement on socially relevant issues.
