Egot winner John Legend joined “The Voice” coaching panel in its 16th season, quickly becoming an attractive option to hopeful winners. The R&b crooner proved to be a powerhouse negotiator when it came to recruiting contestants with four-chair turns, bagging three in his first season including the eventual champion Maelyn Jarmon. But with just one blind audition episode remaining in Season 20, Team Legend has yet to recruit a single four-chair artist. Has Team Legend lost its mojo? Or will the coach come roaring back on Monday’s episode?
With the blind auditions winding down, Kelly Clarkson is out front with two four-chair artists: 22-year old country singer Kenzie Wheeler (for whom she successfully blocked Blake Shelton) and 20-year old pop artist Anna Grace. Nick Jonas snagged 21-year old Zae Romeo and Shelton won over 20-year old country crooner Avery Roberson.

Of the eight artists to be eliminated during Week 2 of “The Voice” Knockouts, fans are most furious over Zoe Upkins. This 16-year-old student from Nashville, Tennessee wowed the coaches with her cover of “Angel of Mine” during the blind auditions, where she joined up with Team John Legend. Unfortunately, John kicked her to the curb during Monday’s episode when he favored Will Breman‘s cover of “I Don’t Care” more than Zoe’s rendition of “Like I’m Gonna Lose You.” In our recent poll, 34% of “The Voice” fans say Zoe was “robbed” of a spot in the live Playoffs. Do you agree or disagree with those poll results? Sound off down in the comments section.

John Legend‘s final Knockout of “The Voice” Season 17 was Marybeth Byrd vs. Preston C. Howell. During Tuesday’s episode, the 18-year-old Arkansas pop singer performed Adele‘s “All I Ask,” while the 15-year-old Florida crooner chose Frank Sinatra‘s “The Way You Look Tonight.” Even though Preston was an early favorite to win the championship, John decided to send him home following Marybeth’s powerful performance. Do you think John made the right choice to advance Marybeth to the live Playoffs? Watch “The Voice” video above and then sound off down in the comments section.

By the conclusion of Tuesday’s episode of The Voice, the final metaphorical punch had been thrown in Season 17’s Knockout rounds. And if you were feeling a little black and blue, I wouldn’t blame you. Who could? A few of the cuts we’ve already withstood have hurt. So, after reviewing the performances that sent the last of the Top 20 to the Live Playoffs, we’ll discuss the eliminees we were sorriest to see go. But first, Tuesday’s sing-offs…

Usually around this time of year, “The Voice” asks a famous face to act as a mentor for all of the artists that made it to the Knockouts. This time around, NBC’s reality TV show stepped things up by hiring a so-called mega mentor in the form of 10-time Grammy winning pop star Taylor Swift. “I didn’t realize that I was now being called a mega mentor,” Swift declared after her introduction during Monday’s episode. “That’s really gonna go straight to my head. I would like a latte right now. No one? Glass of wine?”

And just like that, the battle rounds of “The Voice” Season 17 are a thing of the past. The final battle chronicled during Monday’s episode was the duo of Myla Finks & Chelsea Grover (aka Hello Sunday) vs. Lauren Hall. The girls all took on “Wrecking Ball” and had their coach Kelly Clarkson struggling to make a decision. In the end, after an agonizing commercial break, Kelly announced Hello Sunday was the winner of the battle. But hold on, Lauren’s journey wasn’t over quite yet as Blake Shelton swooped in to steal her for his team. Watch “The Voice” battle video above.

John Legend wrapped up the recent blind audition rounds of “The Voice” Season 17 with a whopping five artists that were four-chair turns, more than any other coach. Surprisingly, he decided to pair up two such artists during Monday’s final battle episode: Preston C. Howell and Mendeleyev. And since John had already used up his save and steal, that meant one of these artists was definitely heading home. After watching their performance of “Fire and Rain,” John advanced 14-year-old Preston to the Knockouts, thereby saying goodbye to 28-year-old Mendeleyev. Did he make the right decision? Monday’s episode of The Voice brought to an end Season 17’s Battles (as well as four more acts’ hopes of advancing) and kicked off the much-missed Knockouts with Taylor Swift on board as Team Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, John Legend and Gwen Stefani’s “mega mentor.” Of note — aside from my lingering irritation that Blake dumped the awesome Cory Jackson for the eh-some Zach Bridges — is the fact that the coaches have only one steal, as opposed to a steal and a save as in seasons past. Got all that? Then, as Carson Daly would say, the recap starts now.

With only one episode left of “The Voice” Season 17 blind auditions, each coach is thisclose to completing their teams. In fact, thanks to the show’s savvy editing, all four coaches — Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Gwen Stefani — currently have exactly 11 out of their 12 required artists. That means the Monday, October 14 episode will showcase the last four artists to join the coaches’ teams before we head right into the exciting battle rounds.

Zach Bridges, a 28-year-old X-ray technician from Mississippi, is a lifelong superfan of Blake Shelton who performed his classic song “Ol’ Red” during Monday’s episode of “The Voice.” Even though lovebirds Gwen Stefani and Blake both turned their chairs around, Zach had an easy decision to make, particularly after his mentor gave an emotional pitch that rival coach John Legend said “melted [his] heart.” Watch “The Voice” blind audition video above.

During Monday’s episode of “The Voice” Season 17, Gwen Stefani threw shade at her boyfriend (and rival coach) Blake Shelton on national television. “I was nervous [to come back],” she told host Carson Daly after being away from the show for five seasons. “I didn’t know what it was gonna be like with Blake, because I knew I wanted to beat him so bad, and I am probably going to beat him. With The Voice’s Season 17 Battles fast approaching — they start in the second half of the Monday, Oct. 14, episode — Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Gwen Stefani worked to complete their teams Monday. Looking over their rosters ahead of Night 5 of the Blind Auditions, I’d have given the edge to reigning champ John, whose sophomore-season lineup included three singers who really seemed to make an impression on the audience (Katie Kadan, Mendeleyev and Preston C. Howell). Of course, any of them could fall apart in the Battles. And new frontrunners could have emerged Monday. But did they? Let’s review the performances,...

Tuesday night on “The Voice,” 14-year-old Preston C. Howell earned a rare four-chair turn during his blind audition of The Mamas & the Papas‘ “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” The Miami crooner/dancer heard four wildly different pitches from coaches John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, but whose team did he ultimately decide to join? And does he have what it takes to join “The Voice” winners list at such a young age? Watch Preston’s blind audition video above.

But it was still kinda fun that Monday’s episode of The Voice left us hanging, wondering whether Cali Wilson would choose John Legend, Blake Shelton or Gwen Stefani to be her coach.
