Omara Shetty is an Indian actor and movement artist known for her leading role in The Shameless (2024), which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Her performance as Devika, a teenage girl navigating power, agency, and survival in a devadasi brothel, was noted for its restraint, emotional precision, and depth.
Born in Thane, India, and of Mangalorean heritage, Omara began her training in Bharatanatyam at a young age. She went on to study journalism and briefly worked as a journalist before transitioning to performance. She received movement training at the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts in Bengaluru, developing a grounded, physical approach to character work.
In addition to her screen work, Omara contributed musically to The Shameless, writing and performing a rap piece for her character, inspired by underground South Asian hip hop. Her red carpet appearance at Cannes 2024, where she wore custom Louis Vuitton and Chopard high jewellery, was widely covered by fashion and entertainment media, marking her arrival on the international stage.
