Captain Pike and his enterprising crew get very crafty during a relentless attack by the Gorn, as seen in a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 teaser that debuted Saturday at New York Comic Con.

In the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season one episode “Spock Amok,” Spock expressed his distaste for “hijinks.” But because he made that declaration while inside the body of his intended T’Pring, Spock also knows that he cannot avoid hijinks.
The first teaser for Strange New Worlds‘s third season promises further hijinks, hijinks that might irritate fans as much as they do Spock.
The teaser shows a team from the Enterprise getting ready for a secret mission on Vulcan, including Pike, Chapel, La’an, Uhura, and Pelia. Using the same treatment that changed Spock from fully human back to his normal state, the quartet gets transformed into Vulcans. All but Pelia, that is, forcing Spock to take her place.
As the transformation occurs, the four former humans fall to the ground, overwhelmed by the flood of emotions that overtake them. So far, so good, in terms of canon.

The “Star Trek” Universe uncloaked a litany of first looks during its epic panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, including panels for the third season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” the fifth and final season of “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and the first television feature film in the franchise, “Star Trek: Section 31.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was on point, so to speak, as the popular series and its actors returned to Hall H as part of the Star Trek Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con — and the audience was all ears for it.
Castmembers Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck, who missed last year’s panel due to the writers and actors strikes, beamed up onstage alongside executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers.
The panel featured a first-look clip from the upcoming third season of the show, set to debut in 2025.
The show, based on the years that Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise, follows Pike (Anson Mount), Science Officer Spock (Peck), Number One (Romijn) and the crew of the ship before Captain Kirk boarded it as they explore new worlds around the galaxy. The Enterprise crew’s newest mission is a fascinating one, to say the least.
A first-look clip released during Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday found Captain Pike (played by Anson Mount), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Chapel (Jess Bush), La’an (Christina Chong) and Pelia (Carol Kane) injected with a serum that transformed them into Vulcans — though Pelia was somehow immune. But something went awry, and it looks like they’ll stay that way… indefinitely!

"The Simpsons" gets a lot of mileage out of its voice actors. Seriously, it feels like half of Springfield is voiced by Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, or Tress MacNeille. Despite the numerous cases of voice actors doubling up, each character in the cast sounds unique and immediately recognizable. Even Maggie Simpson, the perennial infant who never says a word, has her distinctive pacifier sound.
Most of Maggie's baby sounds are provided by Nancy Cartwright (whose primary "Simpsons" is playing Maggie's older brother Bart). On the rare occasions where Maggie does do more than squeal or suck on her binky, the show has brought out some big acting guns.
In season 2's "Bart vs Thanksgiving," Bart imagines his family being angry with him; Maggie declares, "It's your fault I can't talk!" That one line was provided by none other than an uncredited Carol Kane (who these days is rocking it as...

"Star Trek" fans have seen quite a few new uniforms on "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," including standard and dress uniforms for the crew of the Enterprise and live-action versions of the "Star Trek: Lower Decks" uniforms, but one character's uniform offered something totally unique to the franchise. A new Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise joined the crew in season 2 of "Strange New Worlds," played by comedy legend (and "Star Trek" rookie!) Carol Kane, and she was given a new accessory for her uniform that made Starfleet history.
While joining host Wil Wheaton on "The Ready Room," a web series that dives into the world of "Star Trek" and provides interviews and behind-the-scenes peeks, Kane shared that she was lucky enough to be the recipient of a unique item for her Starfleet uniform. Kane's character, Commander Pelia, is a Lanthanite who has lived for centuries, even hiding...

At the end of the first season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," the U.S.S. Enterprise had lost its chief engineer, Lieutenant Hemmer (Bruce Horak), to a Gorn egg that had been implanted inside his body. At the beginning of the second season, audiences were introduced to a new character named Pelia (Carol Kane) an engineer who had no intention of serving on board the ship. After a merry misadventure, Pelia decided she liked the Enterprise and its crew and signed onto a senior role on the ship. Pelia was unlike many of the more rule-oriented characters on "Strange New World," rarely abiding by protocol, hoarding strange art artifacts in her room, and generally ignoring orders. She was a wonderful addition to the show, and a worthy successor to the already-great Hemmer.

In 2022, the Star Trek universe got a little bigger with the premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The Paramount+ series follows the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise – under the command of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) – as they explore uncharted territories and encounter new life and civilizations.
The streaming service was so confident that the Star Trek: Discovery spinoff would be a hit with fans that they ordered a second season months before the series premiered. Then, in March 2023, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was renewed for season 3, several months in advance of the June 2023 season 2 premiere.

The Strange New Worlds finale, “Hegemony,” dropped a lot of big dramatic events, from a Gorn invasion to Pike having to choose between his orders and his duty to his crew in a devastating cliffhanger that has us hoping the AMPTP will immediately fold and concede to all demands so we can get season 3 into production Asap. But among all of those twist and turns, we also saw the beginnings of one of the greatest love stories Star Trek has ever known.
No, we don’t mean Spock and Nurse Chapel. Or Pike and Batel. We don’t even mean Kirk and Spock, or my personal favorite, Picard and Q. We are taking about the timeless, enduring love story of a simple, salt-of-the-earth lad from Aberdeen, and a big, beautiful, tritanium-alloy lady named Enterprise.

Spoilers for the season two finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments for the Season 2 finale of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” currently streaming on Paramount+.
The second season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” took a large number of big swings: Spock (Ethan Peck) becoming human for a time; an alternate universe James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) romancing La’an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) in 21st century Toronto; the crossover episode with the animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks”; and the musical episode featuring a Klingon boy band group.
The Season 2 finale, “Hegemony,” attempts to top them all. The terrifying reptilian aliens from Season 1, the Gorn, return with a vengeance, decimating a brand new human colony that the Gorn believe falls within their territory. That would be trying enough for Capt. Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the Enterprise to deal with, but the Gorn also happened to attack the colony while Pike’s girlfriend,...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 10
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 is honestly an astounding achievement. It not only pulled off a musical episode and a live-action crossover with a cartoon, its traditional installments were virtually nothing but straight bangers, rattling off war stories, showstopper courtroom trials, and heartrending journeys through time that rank up there with the best the Star Trek franchise has ever offered. We are so lucky to have this show, and it has generally exceeded every expectation I could have ever set for it.
So when I call the season 2 finale “Hegemony” a generally fine conclusion to this run of episodes, I mean it in the most expansive sense of the word. A “fine” Strange New Worlds episode is still pretty outstanding television, and as a season-ender, “Hegemony” is certainly an action-packed adventure, one that...

This post contains major spoilers for the season 2 finale of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."
The more time passes, the closer "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" gets to the original 1966 TV series. "Strange New Worlds" takes place seven or eight years prior to "Star Trek" and its second season has already teased some of the eventual connective tissue to its forebear. Kirk (Paul Wesley) is still only a first officer aboard the U.S.S. The series has been fleshing out the romance between Spock and Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), but is carefully arranging their relationship to be more professional as it will be seen later in the "Star Trek" timeline. Andorian chief engineer Hemmer was one of the highlights of the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, thanks in large part to actor Bruce Horak’s gruff sweetness. Fans truly felt the loss when Hemmer sacrificed himself to save the crew from the Gorn in “All Those Who Wander,” even if it made way for the equally wonderful Carol Kane as new chief engineer Pelia.
But that didn’t mark the end of Horak’s time in Star Trek. We got a brief glimpse of Hemmer as both a zombie projection and a priority one YouTube video in season 2’s “Lost in Translation,” as Uhura called upon the teaching of her old friend to solve a complex communication problem. Now, Horak is back in the new musical episode, “Subspace Rhapsody,” but not as Hemmer.

There has never been Trek like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 9, and there may never be again, which would be a galactic shame.
Ever since Paramount+ released the news at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 that the penultimate offering of the season would be a musical, the fanbase has been split between the canonical stick-in-the-warp-core gatekeepers and those who embrace all that Trek can be.
Haters can just jettison their vitriol now. This is the biggest swing the series -- nay, the franchise -- has ever taken, and they blast it so far out there they probably broke temporal protocols.
It was always meant to be.
Ever since Una confessed her love of Gilbert & Sullivan to Spock on Star Trek: Short Treks Season 2 Episode 1, treating him to a performance of the "Major-General's Song" from The Pirates of Penzance, we've itched to know what Spock would sing, given the chance.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 9 “Subspace Rhapsody.”] If the musical proves one thing, it’s that “Strange New Worlds is not going to jump the shark,” Dermott Downs, who directed the groundbreaking episode (a first for Star Trek!), tells TV Insider. That was a concern of his, when he first heard about it, he admits, “but there’s such great writers on [the show], and once you understand the conceit of the music anomaly, when Carol Kane [who plays Pelia] says, ‘Well, have you tried bouncing music at it?’ and it comes back into the ship. Once you’re going with it, then it just became better and better because the more you sang, the more your vulnerabilities were coming out through the music.” He continues, “every song was different, to the amazing credit of the songwriters and the screenwriters. It wasn’t just like, ‘Ok, we’re going to go ...

Yes, "Star Trek" can be silly sometimes. One might recall the original series episode "Shore Leave" wherein the crew of the Enterprise saw their thoughts and fantasies -- including knights and anthropomorphic white rabbits and samurai -- manifested in android form. Then there's the "Next Generation" episode "QPid" wherein the Enterprise-d crew were magically transformed into characters from Robin Hood. There's also the "Deep Space Nine" episode "If Wishes Were Horses" wherein the DS9 crew unwittingly manifested characters out of their brains, like Rumpelstiltskin and ultra-horny doppelgängers of their co-workers. And then we have the "Voyager" episode "Bride of Chaotica!" wherein the Voyager crew re-enacted a 1950s sci-fi serial, complete with cheesy special effects and black-and-white photography.
These "wacky" comedy episodes, while not always necessarily funny, tend to serve an important function in "Star Trek." Specifically, they break up the monotony. Both the viewers and the makers of the show...

It was hugely anticipated, loudly touted, and blown completely out of proportion for what should've been a novel one-off curiosity, but Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 7 delivers the Star Trek: Lower Decks crossover like the bombshell G.O.A.T. event it was always meant to be.
Not only do Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid manage to manifest their animated personas in live-action form perfectly, but the Mariner-Boimer brand of chaos proves to be a catalyst for character growth throughout the crew.
It's incredibly fitting for Tptb to release this story of Starfleet's biggest fanboy meeting his heroes as a surprise treat during the biggest fan convention weekend. Happy birthday, Captain Pike, and Happy Comic-Con to all of us!
And while I pride myself on nuanced and balanced narrative analysis and character development, you'll forgive me for gushing over the brilliant detail and loving callbacks this adventure showcases so well.
Not only do Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid manage to manifest their animated personas in live-action form perfectly, but the Mariner-Boimer brand of chaos proves to be a catalyst for character growth throughout the crew.

Grief is a hard thing to talk about and an even harder one to confront. On Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 6, we finally have the opportunity to deal with Hemmer's tragic and horrific death from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1.
Pelia is in the unenviable position of replacing him as Chief Engineer, where her style and approach will invariably be compared (and found lacking) to Hemmer's. Her interaction with Una illustrates this vividly.
Meanwhile, Uhura's relationship with the late Chief Engineer was one of both professional and personal mentorship. That bond can resemble a parent-child connection, and it's not surprising that his death reminds her of the loss of her family.
There are a lot of backward glances at previous missions seeded throughout the narrative and one very significant nod to a future working relationship we all know is coming.

It was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con last year that there would be a special crossover episode between Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks. Flash forward one year later, and that crossover episode will premiere early for the fans at Comic-Con.
As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are both on strike, you shouldn’t expect any actors or writers to take part in the Star Trek Universe Comic-Con panel, but Paramount still has a lot to present. This week’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds asked a provocative question: What would you do if you had the opportunity to go back in time and kill a mass murderer before they grew up to commit such atrocities?
After a gravely wounded stranger appeared aboard the Enterprise, urging La’an to stop an attack before it was too late, the security chief found herself stuck in Toronto in the past, and in an alternate timeline with a version of Captain Kirk who was born in space aboard the U.S.S. Iowa rather than on Earth. (Fun fact: In the 2009 film Star Trek,...

This Star Trek: Strange New Worlds article contains spoilers.
With the third episode of its second season, Strange New Worlds seems to rewrite the canon of The Original Series. But what makes “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” so interesting is that the episode itself is smartly understated. Despite the seismic events within the story — including at least one parallel timeline and the death of a major character — this episode still feels intimate, in the tradition of The Original Series, specifically the classic “City on the Edge of Forever.”
In fact, despite all the specific easter eggs, in many ways, “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” is one big easter egg for “City.” With that in mind, here are the spoiler-filled references and callbacks for “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow,” complete with stone knives and bear skins.
Denobulan Cadet
At the beginning of the episode, we see a Denobulan cadet arguing with La’an.

Oh, the layers of meaning and nuance on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 3 are truly impressive.
For an offering that could easily be written off as a buddy-romcom time travel side adventure, there is a plethora of character development for LA'an and multiple on-ramps for future plotlines, including the intriguing potential of a LA'an-Kirk romance.
Bringing the Temporal Wars into the mix is a ballsy move; as we all know, messing with the space-time continuum always leads to shenanigans.
The timing of LA'an's adventure is awfully on the nose, seeing as she's still struggling with Una's revealed identity as an Illyrian, a perceived betrayal in light of the name LA'an carries.
Her sparring session with M'Benga underscores the emotional baggage she can't unload, while her personal logs indicate her isolation in her role as Chief Security Officer.

When engineer Pelia strutted her way onto the Enterprise bridge in the premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season two, blatantly ignoring the evacuation warning and acting Captain Spock’s orders, viewers simply assumed she was just another one of the delightfully odd characters played by Carol Kane. From The Princess Bride and Scrooged to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Taxi, Kane has established herself as a master at playing wonderful oddballs, squeaky-voiced agents of chaos who disrupt the status quo simply by showing up.
And to be sure, that’s exactly what Pelia does. Not only does she see right through Spock’s (literally) textbook plan to falsely sabotage the ship and steal the Enterprise but she also offers a much more elegant solution, helping the skeleton crew answer a distress call from the erstwhile Lieutenant La’an Noonien-Singh.

You're forgiven if Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 1 evokes strong feelings of déjà vu.
After all, the entire plot of the recently concluded Star Trek: Picard Season 3 hinges on stealing a starship. Also, Captain Seven is challenged to coin her engage phrase on Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode 10, just like Spock here.
Finally, the ship launching from underground caverns? We've seen that in animated forms on both Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 Episode 7 and Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 Episode 2.
All that being said, familiarity breeds no contempt as we slip into the comfortable, chummy embrace of our pined-for Enterprise ensemble.
With the Season 1 finale leaving us on tenterhooks about Una's fate, the writers subvert expectations by delaying that question by shipping Pike off-site for the entire premiere adventure.
Instead, we bring LA'an back into the fold as her quest to reunite fellow Gorn-surviving girl warrior, Oriana, with...

When Carol Kane was approached about joining “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” for its second season, the celebrated 70-year-old actor had to make a confession: She’d never watched a single minute of the venerated franchise.
“The science fiction world has not really been attractive to me for some reason,” Kane says. “Now that I’m in it,” she adds with a laugh, “I’m very excited about it. It just wasn’t on my path until now.”
Clearly the producers were on to something. Kane’s role on the Paramount+ series fits neatly within her wheelhouse of sublime eccentrics, from her Emmy-winning role on “Taxi” to for-the-ages supporting turns in “The Muppet Movie,” “The Princess Bride,” “Scrooged” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” Here, she plays Pelia, the new chief engineer of the Enterprise and a member of an alien species never before seen on “Star Trek”: Lanthanites, who are...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Episode 1
On paper, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is the most traditional entry in the current Star Trek franchise, with its more episodic weekly adventures, light-hearted feel, and open embrace of the wonders inherent in space exploration. But, for all its old-school vibes, nothing about this show feels stodgy or stuck in the past. In fact, Strange New Worlds is at its best when it’s gleefully subverting our expectations about what a show like this is supposed to be and do from week to week, embracing shifts in genre, tone, and format that somehow manage to make even the most familiar story beats feel fresh and new.
So it probably shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Strange New Worlds season 2 premiere continues to choose the unexpected path, and does exactly the opposite of what...

We’ve been bingeing Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in my house lately. In addition to the underrated spinoff’s individual merits, it’s striking to be reminded of the differences between the era where every successful show made 20-plus episodes a year, and this current one, where 10 episodes per season is the most given to almost everybody, including modern-day Trek shows like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The upcoming second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will include a crossover episode with Star Trek: Lower Decks, but if the cast have their way… it won’t be the last crossover for the series. While speaking with SFX Magazine, Strange New Worlds stars Anson Mount (Pike) and Ethan Peck (Spock) are holding out hope for a crossover with the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
“I’d have to say The Next Generation,” Ethan Peck said, “Just because I’ve gotten now to work with Jonathan Frakes and I’ve gotten to know some of the cast. Something weird is afoot in Season 2 of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.”
The next chapter of the Paramount+ series will feature a crossover with fellow “Trek” series “Lower Decks.” Crossovers aren’t unusual, but in this case “Strange New Worlds” is a live-action show, and “Lower Decks” is animated.
All will be explained in due time, but somehow “Lower Decks” crewmembers Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) and Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) will board the U.S.S. Enterprise “in the flesh.” Check out the promotional photo below:

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" was a warm, exciting surprise addition to the "Star Trek" franchise, reintroducing fans to new versions of old favorites from the original series and telling the story of the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount). The first season was a total blast with a little something for every kind of "Star Trek" fan, and now the trailer for season 2 is here and it looks even better than the first. That's right, the Enterprise is back, bringing Pike, Una (Rebecca Romijn), Spock (Ethan Peck), and the rest of the courageous and charismatic crew. We already know about some of what we're going to see in season 2, like the "Star Trek: Lower Decks" crossover episode directed by Jonathan Frakes and an episode giving Ortegas the starring role, but the trailer gives us even more of an idea of what the upcoming season will hold.

The “Star Trek” universe continues to expand, with fan favorites returning and new shows (and worlds) to explore on the Paramount+ streaming service even as “Star Trek: Picard” comes to an end.
“Strange New Worlds” and “Lower Decks” are eyeing a summer return, with “Prodigy” slated for a winter release.
They’re also several projects in development, including a “Starfleet Academy” focusing on young cadets, and a “Section 31” movie centered around Michelle Yeoh’s deliciously evil anti-hero from “Discovery.”
Below we run down every upcoming new “Star Trek” TV series coming to Paramount+.

The arrival of James T. Kirk seems to make a big impression on at least one Enterprise crew member in a newly released trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ second season.
Paul Wesley — who previously appeared as Kirk in Strange New Worlds‘ freshman finale, albeit in an alternate timeline — will show up as the real Kirk in Season 2. And, as Rebecca Romijn’s Una observes in the trailer above, Lt. La’an Noonien-Singh radiates a certain “energy” when Kirk beams onto the Enterprise.

The first season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" concluded on July 7, 2022, with the finale rounding out what might be one of the strongest debut years in "Star Trek" history. It's commonly accepted among Trekkies that Trek shows -— however interesting their cast, characters, and setting -- start at a low ebb in writing and quality; Trek is the poster child for the phrase "It gets good in season 3." "Strange New Worlds," breaking the trend, was good right out of the gate. Trek functions best as individual episodes (as opposed to season-long story arcs like those attempted in "Discovery" and "Picard"), as well as a workplace show. The characters' personal lives matter less than how they behave when they're on the clock.
