Matthijs Bockting (Hummelo, 1987) obtained his Bachelor of Film in Screenwriting at the Dutch Film Academy (2009-2013), after studying screenwriting at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) (2006-2009) and the Rietveld Lyceum ( 2000-2005).
Immediately after graduating, Matthijs co-founded the writers collective Winchester McFly (2013-present). Among other things, he co-wrote the police series Force (2014), the first Dutch Netflix original Ares (2020), the high-end series Turbulent Skies (2020), about civil aviation in the Netherlands and the supernatural book series The Detta Files (2022). In addition to his work at Winchester McFly, Matthijs also writes solo on projects such as the children's series Towards Five December (2016), the Dutch Writers Guild award-winning single play Once Upon a Ladder (2016) the successful series Swanenburg (2021 ) and the new installment in the Mocro Maffia Universe Tatta (2023, released at the Dutch streamer Videoland.
In 2023/2024, the six-part series Laura H., about the first Dutch woman to return from the Caliphate, and the second seasons of All Stars & Sons and Swanenburg will appear, all on the Dutch public broadcaster. Matthijs is working on series for streamers such as Viaplay, Amazon Prime Video and Canal +. He also writes the fantasy/horror film Wood. With this last film he goes back to his roots and hopes to one day be able to write his dream masterpiece: Amarcord in the Achterhoek, the region in the east of the Netherlands, where Matthijs grew up.
Matthijs is called The Hemingway from Hummelo. But mostly by himself.
