‘A Teacher’: FX Limited Series Based On Hannah Fidell’s Film Adds Eight To Cast
Exclusive: FX is rounding out the cast for A Teacher. Manhattan alum Ashley Zukerman, Marielle Scott (Lady Bird), Shane Harper (Awkward) and Adam David Thompson (Godless) are set as series regulars, and Rya Kihlstedt (Yellowstone), Camila Perez (Gotham), Cameron Moulène (Foursome) and Ciara Bravo (Wayne) will recur opposite Kate Mara and Nick Robinson in FX’s 10-episode limited series based on Hannah Fidell’s buzzy 2013 Sundance feature, starring and executive produced by Mara.

A Teacher explores the story behind the mugshot of a female high school teacher (Mara) caught in an affair with her male student (Robinson), revealing the complexities and consequences of these illegal relationships.

Fidell, who wrote, directed and produced the film, will pen the adaptation, direct and executive produce the limited series.

Zukerman will play Matt, Claire’s (Mara) supportive and loving husband with a boyish charm and a creative side that he’s been repressing for years.

YouTube to Make New Originals Available for Free, Ad-Supported Viewing With ‘Single Slate’ Strategy
YouTube has concluded that its investments in original programming should have a home on the free, ad-supported side — not just tucked behind a paywall.

In a shift in strategy, the Google-owned video platform said that starting next year it will move to make all of its new original programming available for free for anyone to watch. With the change, YouTube is moving toward more mainstream celebrity-driven and creator-based reality fare, while it will continue to greenlight scripted productions.

Until now, YouTube Originals have mainly been available on its YouTube Premium subscription service, although YouTube also has expanded the shows and movies it makes available on an ad-supported basis.

“As we look to 2019, we will continue to invest in scripted programming and shift to make our YouTube Originals ad supported to meet the growing demand of a more global fanbase,” a YouTube rep said in a statement. “This next phase...

MTV has greenlit two comedies to series. “Happyland” and “Faking Out” have both received orders for eight episodes each, an MTV representative told TheWrap. “Happyland” comes from the team of Neil Meron and Craig Zadan (NBC’s “Smash,” Lifetime’s “Bonnie & Clyde”), pictured above, and their production company, Storyline Entertainment. It follows the misadventures at a popular theme park and with its staff.
