Legaspi completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of the East, majoring in Advertising Arts. He was also a filmmaking fellow at the prestigious Asian Film Academy in Busan, South Korea. Since then, his films had been officially selected in more than 150 film festivals around the world. In 2013, he received the prestigious UNESCO Laureate scholarship and eventually became a resident artist of the Università delle Idee - Italy where he also won the ILLY DESIGN PRIZE - Art for Social Change.
As an "Artiste Multidisciplinaire", Legaspi's works are more focused on raising consciousness and creating space for dialogue on communal issues, the responsible transformation of society and creative activation through contemporary art. For the past years, he was invited to different art shows in major alternative galleries and exhibition spaces in Italy, Germany, and Taiwan. His film about migration was exhibited at the Arte AL Centro in Biella in 2013 and 2015, MILA Kunstgalerie Gallery for Modern Art, PeninsulaLab, Wollinerstrasse in Berlin in 2015 and Sianguang 2nd Village, Workstation, Taiwan in 2017.
He is three-time Gawad Cultural Center of the Philippines for Alternative Film and Video awardee, 62nd Carlos Palanca Awards for Literature winner in 2012, Gawad Urian nominee in 2013 and 2015, National Commission for Culture and the Arts Competitive (NCCA) grant winner in 2009, 2012 and 2021, Cinemalaya 2009 and Cinema One 2012 Film Festivals Jury Prize winner, and International Photography Awards (IPA) 2017 - Silver Prize winner for moving images and Global Finalist, International Photography Contest Montanha 2019 in Portugal. In 2017, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) acknowledged him as one of the Philippine Film Ambassadors for winning in Kingston, Jamaica.
Legaspi was the first Filipino artist featured in the retrospective of Monsoon Asia Film Festival 2016 in Taiwan. He also received the Taiwan Emerald Initiative grant for his documentary full-length project "Halfway Home" (In Development) in 2018, and he was selected for a pitching workshop and forum at the Kota Kinabalu IFF for another documentary "Place, Displace, and Replace" the following year.
He just recently released his new film "Moon under My Feet" - one of the competitive grant winners of the NCCA Values Short Film Festival. He was also one of the international fellows of Tech Tales: Films about digital rights in the Asia-Pacific - Australia, Student Auditor at the 14th NAFF (Network of Asian Fantastic Films) Fantastic Film School, Bucheon, South Korea, Kyoto Filmmakers Lab - Master Session and FDCP CreatePH Script writing development grantee in cooperation with Tatino Films - France for a full-length narrative 'The Legend of the Wild Rose Mallow". He's mini-docu "Small Steps" recently won a Special Mention Award in Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival.
