Cheng Wu, also known as Edward Cheng, is the vice-chairman of Tencent Group and CEO of Tencent Pictures and the e-reading conglomerate China Literature. Mr. Cheng Wu became the CEO of China Literature in April 2020.
In June 2021, Mr. Cheng Wu proposed the "Dayuewen" strategy, which clearly stated that "with network literature as the cornerstone and IP development as the driving force, we will openly build an IP ecological business matrix with partners in the entire industry." Upgrading and re-engineering of content, platform, and organization push the company to a new stage of development.
In addition, Mr. Cheng Wu led the management team of China Literature to clarify the brand-new corporate mission "to keep good stories alive" and the corporate vision "to create the most valuable IP ecological chain for creators and become the world's top cultural industry group."
In recent years, Mr. Cheng Wu has promoted the adaptation of a large number of excellent online literary IPs such as "Celebrating More Than Years", "The Son-in-Law" and "Fights Break the Sphere" to animation, film and television, games, and other formats, and at the same time produced the "Time Melody Trilogy" "1921 ", "The World", "Heart Home" and other high-reputation film and television works, and created national comic IP and animation works such as "Under One Man" and "Fox Fairy Little Matchmaker".
Mr. Cheng Wu joined Tencent in 2009 and served as vice president of Tencent Group, chairman of Tencent Animation, and CEO of Tencent Pictures. In 2011, Mr. Cheng Wu initiated the "pan-entertainment strategy" with IP as the core in the industry and later upgraded it to the "new cultural and creative" strategic conception, which promoted Tencent's development of animation, online literature, film and television, and television on the basis of game business. Competing for other business sectors, thus building Tencent's pan-entertainment business matrix. In 2015, Tencent Literature and Shanda Literature merged to form China Literature, with Mr. Cheng Wu as the director. In December 2019, the Global Esports Federation (GEF) was established, Tencent became the global chief founding partner of GEF, and Mr. Cheng Wu served as the vice chairman of GEF.
Mr. Cheng Wu graduated from the Department of Physics at Tsinghua University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He also holds an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from the Olin Business School of Washington University in the United States and an EMBA in Finance from Tsinghua PBC School of Finance. Mr. Cheng Wu used to be the business leader of the drama team of the Tsinghua University Art Troupe. He believes that the perfect combination of science and art can create the best value for society.
