John is comedy writer, director, editor and producer and owner of Big Face TV Ltd.
He began working in media as an intern and then assistant to the director of production at Miramax films in 1997 where he was a script reader, writing treatments on script submissions and assisting on set. From there he went on to become Director's Assistant to Iain Softley (Backbeat, Hackers, Wings of the Dove and more) going on to gain experience in most areas of film and TV production.
In 2001 he accidentally went on to co-win the BBC New Comedy Awards (with Sharon Horgan, Richard Glover and Dennis Kelly) with comedy shorts he co-wrote, directed and edited. As a result he diverted from directing ambitions to became an accidental comedian.
As well as live shows (including his own award nominated Edinburgh double act comedy show, Hopkins and Glover and cult live show 'Ealing Live!', along side some of todays biggest comedy stars) he has appeared in various live and TV comedies, including the IT Crowd and The Mighty Boosh. Most recently as a performer he has starred in, written and directed an online sitcom 'Intergalactic Sausage' for Wildseed Studios, release date TBC).
He has developed, written, directed and edited comedy for BBC, Channel 4, ITV, CBBC, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central and many more. His comedy background has lead him into world of children's TV and Learning, developing, directing and editing various shows including Dick and Dom Dom's Funny Business and several of the BBC Bitesize series.
In 2015 he set up his production company, Big Face TV Ltd., which has most recently delivered 'The Muckers Songs' for CBBC. This was commissioned off the back of the successful broadcast pilot 'The Muckers', which John also directed and edited. He continues to produce work for Big Face TV and as a freelance producer and writer/director/editor working in TV and advertising.
