Jack Black is reuniting with the Farrelly brothers for Christmas comedy Dear Santa, and here’s the trailer for the film.
Jack Black and the Farrelly brothers have worked together before. Go back to 2001, and we got Shallow Hal. It follows a man (Black) who is hypnotized into seeing only the inner beauty of women and falls in love with Gwyneth Paltrow. It remains a prime example of the Farrelly brothers’ near-the-knuckle comedy. However, it’s also a film with a rather unpleasant mean streak which has attracted a lot of criticism in the years since its release.
Anyway, to now. Jack Black has reunited with the Farrelly brothers to play a twisted version of Father Christmas in festive film Dear Santa.
Black stars alongside Robert Timothy Smith, Keegan-Michael Key, Brianne Howey, Hayes MacArthur, Pj Byrne, newcomer Jaden Carson Baker, Kai Cech and Austin Post.

In the world of video games, Minecraft surely has a large fan following. And based on this, fans were taken by surprise when a movie adapted from the game was announced by Warner Bros. To add more intrigue, actor Jason Momoa was also roped in to play the lead Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison.

Not just him, but other notable names such as Jack Black, Emma Myers, and Danielle Brooks were also added to the cast list.
However, a recent update from the upcoming movie has received a rather negative response from the fans. The first look of a Bee was recently dropped on X, and by the reactions of fans, it’s safe to say they are not at all happy.

Once upon a time, in the magical land of Hollywood, a movie about the globally popular video game "Minecraft" was being made. Inspired perhaps by the success of "The Lego Movie," which took the rather simple block toys of childhood and created a cinematic miracle that made more than $468 million at the worldwide box office, Mojang Studios started looking at turning its own popular building-block game into a blockbuster movie. But who to helm it? "The Lego Movie" had Chris Miller and Phil Lord of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" and "21 Jump Street" fame, and "Minecraft" needed someone with similar comedy chops.

The first trailer for A Minecraft Movie has arrived with its vision of a blocky world of fantasy, but star Jason Momoa is decidedly unimpressed by it all. Watch the clip below.
In the trailer, Momoa’s Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison is pulled into the Overworld alongside a misfit group of Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks), and can only get home with the help of an expert crafter named Steve, played by Jack Black.
“Anything you can dream about here, you can make,” Black says while introducing himself. Instead of expressing relief, Momoa and his crew respond with disdain. “This guy is such a toolbag,” Myers blurts out.
The video game adaptation was directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) from a screenplay penned by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. Jennifer Coolidge will also appear.

Jason Momoa and Jack Black lead the pack in Warner Bros’ long-awaited video game adaptation. Take a look at the first A Minecraft Movie trailer below.
We’ve known for a while now that Warner Bros is making a movie based on the incredibly popular game franchise Minecraft. As of 2023, Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, so there’s a lot riding on the film’s cubic shoulders. No one quite knew how the studio would make the so-called sandbox game work in narrative form, but we’ve now got our very first trailer to give us some more clues.
Take a look at the first A Minecraft Movie trailer.
As you can see, the film stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks as well as Sebastian Eugene Hansen and Emma Myers. Jennifer Coolidge is also involved, but there’s no sign of her in the trailer.

The first official trailer for the "Minecraft" movie is here. The new film is based on the wildly popular, visually retro open-world building video game of the same name, and we're hoping it'll be a little less "Super Mario Bros Movie" and a little more "Lego Batman Movie" or "Barbie." So far, there have been promising signs; the film's cast features a variety of in-demand actors, from "Aquaman" star Jason Momoa to "The White Lotus" headliner Jennifer Coolidge to "The Color Purple" standout Danielle Brooks.
Jack Black stars in the film, and though I have no doubt he'll bring the same energy and amazing comedic intensity to the role as he does to everything else he's been in, it's worth noting that the actor is less beloved than usual lately thanks to his choice to temporarily break up Tenacious D over a comment Kyle Gass made. Other key "Minecraft" cast...

There's a lot of intrigue and excitement surrounding Warner Bros.' upcoming Minecraft movie and, as we first reported on GameFragger.com, a first look has leaked online today courtesy of a "packaging guide" document.
In the images, we see Jack Black's Steve - depicted as a regular human - decked out in a blue t-shirt and jeans. The bearded The Super Mario Bros. Movie star is also shown wielding a blocky pickaxe alongside a mossy Creeper, a cuboid bee, and a pink sheep.
A brief story synopsis is also included which sheds new light on what's to come in Minecraft; apparently, Steve will be captured by an evil entity called Malgosha, with his fate in the hands of "four fresh visitors" to the Minecraft world. It sounds very Jumanji-esque!
There had been speculation the images might be faked (AI makes anything possible these days), but social media...

Movie-goers will know that we’ve had a surge of video-game and toy-based films in recent years, most of which have done good. There’s The Lego Movie, the new Super Mario animated film, Barbie, and more… and Minecraft, one of the most popular games in history, is slated to become the most recent addition to this list. The movie has been announced a while ago and is set for an April 4, 2025 release, and we have finally seen some shots from the filming, which is now in process.
The movie is filmed in New Zealand, as far as it is known, and while it was originally slated to start in 2023, the SAG-AFTRA strike postponed the production of the movie and while it had begun by mid-January 2024, the delays are obvious. Still, based on the release date, there will be enough time to make the movie properly.

Known for their live action comedies Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, Jerusha and Jared Hess have, for the first time, ventured into the world of animation for their debut short as a directing duo. The film in question is Ninety-Five Senses and it’s as creative and visually driven as you’d expect, telling the story of a death row inmate who’s reflecting on his life through memories related to his senses. The film is structured across six different sections and corresponding animation styles ranging from soft, painterly visuals through to distinct, dynamic character-driven styles reminiscent of Brad Bird’s The Iron Giant. It really is a feast of a film on an aesthetic level, but it also leaves much to chew on in terms of its philosophical themes too. Dn caught up with Jerusha and Jared on the road to the Oscars to learn more from them about their experience making Ninety-Five Senses,...

Letter to a Pig | France/Israel | 17 minutes
As Haim (Alexander Peleg) tells his tale of surviving the Holocaust as a boy hiding in a pigsty from Nazis, he mentions how one of the animals looked him in the eye as though it knew his plight. The pig oinked and moved to stand between Haim and his pursuer, altering the latter’s perception and ultimately helping to turn him away. Beyond just the idea this creature saved his life, though, Haim also acknowledges the conditioned feelings within his heart for his unlikely savior. He had been taught pigs were unclean. Vicious. Lesser beings fit for slaughter. He was taught they deserved his hate.
It’s a profound realization about mankind’s propensity for bloodlust and superiority.

Before they had a plot for “Ninety-Five Senses,” Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess knew that they wanted to lead a project that would give them the opportunity to have several animators working on the film. “We wanted to get five to six animators and the producers to be involved. So, [writers] Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer said, ‘Let’s write a story that could feature each one really succinctly.’ That’s how they came up with the five senses as the vehicle to tell Coy’s story,” Jerusha tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above).
“Ninety-Five Senses” centers on Coy, an old man who is recounting memories associated with each of his senses as an ominous event draws near. The short is now an Oscar nominee for Best Animated Short Film. It marks the first nomination for the husband and wife directors. The couple are...

This year’s Humanitas Prizes for screenwriting, usually handed out at Beverly Hilton ceremony, were announced via the Los Angeles Times this year in solidarity with the unions on strike, including the Unite Here Local 11 hospitality workers. Past winners of that award have included Ava DuVernay and Kenya Barris.

Like an overbooked, overambitious student, “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life” tries to cram far more into its curriculum than it can handle. The film’s attempts at comedy and sentimentality are equally unsuccessful, resulting in a movie that feels more like a third-rate “Saved by the Bell” knock-off than a legitimate teen flick. Both the younger cast members and their more seasoned adult counterparts mostly give it their all, but the screenplay by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer (“Masterminds”) and Kara Holden, based on the novels by airport-king James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts, throws in more incidents and.

Any farce starring Zach Galifianakis and Kristen Wiig can’t be a complete bust. And Masterminds, directed by Jared Hess, of Napoleon Dynamite infamy, gets in its comic licks – just not enough of them. There are enough facts in this script by trio Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, and SNL scribe Emily Spivey to merit the billing, "based on a true story." Something this effing stupid must be true.
Galifianakis plays David Ghantt , a likable idiot from North Carolina who is desperate to win the affections of Kelly (Wiig), who works with him at Loomis Fargo.

Chicago – Tick…tick…tick. That is the sound of your life frittering away, if you choose to experience the 94 minutes, that feels like two weeks, for “Masterminds.” The film that has virtually no laughs – in categorizing itself as a comedy – and is an almost criminal waste of some decent comic talent.
Rating: 1.0/5.0
Here is what I’d rather see the cast do for 94 minutes than watch them in this film. With Zach Galifianakis, have him riff on how hard it is to spell his last name without looking. With Kristen Wiig, let’s do a lunch with her talking about women in comedy, followed by a mani-pedi. Owen Wilson and I would have a zen yoga session, followed by necessary career counseling. A filmed table read of the script – credited to three screenwriters – would have yielded at least ten more laughs than the film, that would be ten more than zero.

There’s a pretty good heist story buried underneath the muddled, sloppy mess that is “Masterminds.” After all, the film is based on the true story of the 1997 Loomis Fargo robbery, in which an employee of the armored truck company attempted to make off with nearly $20 million in a daring (and daringly stupid) act of criminal inspiration. Jared Hess’ film, his followup to the critically maligned “Don Verdean,” is so deeply unfunny that it’s probably wise to imagine what could have been. Despite a stacked cast of typically reliable talent, including Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Owen Wilson, Hess’ feature is practically anti-comedy, a punishing 94-minute endurance test with nearly zero return.
Despite the zany nature of the story, much of the screenplay (from Emily Spivey, Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer) sticks to the facts of the wild tale of the criminally ill-fated...

Based on the book by James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life is the next in the line of films featuring kids taking control of their world.
Rafe (Griffin Gluck) is heading into middle school, and he finds himself in the world of Principal Dwight (Andy Daly), who runs a tight ship, and has an overabundance of rules. Rafe and his friends put together a plan to break every rule Principal Dwight has, but he has to keep his plans, and rule-breaking, from his mom (Lauren Graham).
While this one looks like a lot of fun for younger audiences, its success probably rests on Daly’s shoulders, and he’s a great choice for the role. The “bad guy” in such a film can easily go too cartoony, and though Daly could probably aim for that if he wanted to, his work on things...

Whoever called them the wonder years clearly wasn’t privy to CBS Films’ latest feature length venture, “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life.” Based on the hit “Middle School” book series by James Patterson and featuring a script by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, the film, from director Steve Carr (“Paul Blart: Mall Cop”), centers on Rafe Khatchadorian’s trying times studying and surviving at Hills Village Middle School. He and his friends are faced with battling bullies, hormones, and a “tyrannical principal,” so no doubt there’s some “Matilda”-esque adventure to be had. The Atlanta, Ga., production is filming Nov. 2015 through Jan. 2016 and looking for background talents to play students and siblings. Submissions are being sought from the Atlanta area. For more information, check out the full casting notice for “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life” here. For more cast notices for kid actors,...

Until shortly before production, Masterminds was going by the name Loomis Fargo and if you watch the first trailer you’ll know why. You’ll also get a sense of why the name was changed, as the marketing plan here is definitely to play it broad, play it simple and keep the widest possible audience interested.
For a film from Jared Hess, who made his name with Napoleon Dynamite and also directed the determinedly idiosyncratic Gentleman Broncos, I do have to wonder if that’s an entirely inappropriate decision. Maybe this might have been better sold as an off-beat cult film in waiting.
That’s a fantastic cast, even if I do find Zach Galifianakis to be somewhat hit and miss. They’ve got so many great players they didn’t even feel the need to give us any Ken Marino, though he does get billing in the end cards.

Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig and Owen Wilson star in new comedy Masterminds. And it's finally coming to cinemas...
Well, yikes. Originally, the comedy Masterminds was due to come out last summer, and indeed, the first trailer for it landed in March 2015. But then the film got caught up in financial troubles of Relativity Media, and at one stage as a consequence of that, it looked like it wasn’t going to get a cinema release at all.
But finally, Masterminds is set to appear. The film has been scheduled for a Us release on September 30th. No UK release date has yet been announced.
It’s the new comedy from Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess. The film stars Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig and Owen Wilson, and it centres on a man who drives an armoured security vehicle for a living, regularly transporting millions of dollars around the place.

The film stars Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig and Owen Wilson, and it centres on a man who drives an armoured security vehicle for a living, regularly transporting millions of dollars around the place.
Must be quite tempting to rob the cash, right? That's certainly the plan, and the film takes things from there. It's been written by Emily Spivey, Jody Hill, Danny McBride, Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, and the first trailer for Masterminds landed overnight. Here's a glimpse as to what to expect...

"Brace your boobies." There's plenty of slick heists, from Ocean's Eleven to Inside Man, but the story at the heart of Masterminds doesn't seem to be one of them. In the action comedy from Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite), a robbery is planned by a ragtag team of dimwits including Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig and Owen Wilson, and somehow they get away with it. But that's just where the chaos seems to begin. It's hard to tell what's going on in this chaotic teaser trailer for the comedy, but Jason Sudeikis already seems like he will be the high point of this flick, with the low point being that terrible wig Galifianakis is wearing. Here's the teaser trailer for Jared Hess' Masterminds from YouTube: Masterminds is directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Gentlemen Broncos, Nacho Libre) and written by Danny McBride & Jody Hill ("Eastbound & Down") and Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer...

Jason Sudeikis is in talks to join Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson, and Kristen Wiig in a heist comedy to be directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). Sudeikis has worked with all three of the other stars before, appearing with Wilson in Hall Pass and Galifianakis in The Campaign. He worked with Wiig for several years on SNL and was visibly emotional when she bid her farewell to the show. The project, which used to be called Loomis Fargo, is based on an original screenplay by Emily Spivey, but a new script was written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. There is no title at the moment.
The script is based on the true story of a disgruntled armored car driver who stole nearly $20 million from his company’s vault. When his comrades double-cross him, he is left alone and on the run, and his thoughts turn toward revenge.

Sometimes – even in Hollywood – fact is funnier than fiction. Thankfully, in the hands of talented filmmakers, such realities give rise to projects like Loomis Fargo (though the name may change) – which then attract incredible casts. With Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) at the helm, this Relativity Media production boasts a script by Emily Spivey, Danny McBride, Jody Hill, Hubbel Palmer and Chris Bowman, and is based on a very real heist story.
The tale centres on a reserved man named David, who ekes out his existence driving an armoured truck full of cash every day. He engages in flirtatious banter with the object of his affection – colleague Kelly – and bides his time. Life is quiet and uneventful, until Kelly lures him into a heist scheme that would bag them $20 million. Doing the job, he finds the group hanging him out to dry – so David is soon on the run, and out for revenge.

Once known as Loomis Fargo, the currently-untitled armoured car heist that has Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess set as director is busy rounding up a cast. Jason Sudeikis is just the latest name to jump aboard. With a script by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer – based on an original draft by Emily Spivey written back when Danny McBride and Jody Hill were considering making it – the film is inspired by the true story of four slightly dim types who set their sights on pulling of a lucrative armoured truck robbery.Shockingly, they actually manage to pull it off, and in the real affair, got away with $20 million from a Loomis Fargo truck. Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig and Owen Wilson are already all on for the film, with Sudeikis set to join them as a hit man. Hess should be rolling the cameras next month in North Carolina ready for an August 2015 Us release date.

Hangover star Zach Galifianakis is set to join Owen Wilson in an untitled new heist comedy that was previously called Loomis Fargo. Jim Carrey was supposed to star in the film, but it looks like Galifianakis will be taking his place. I'm sure he'll be great in the role.
The movie is is being directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) from a script written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. That script is based on an original screenplay by Emily Spivey (Up All Night).

Jim Carrey's Dumb & Dumber sequel is struggling to find a home, and Owen Wilson's The Internship didn't quite smash the Us box office last weekend. But there's always the next project, which in this case they'll be facing together. Carrey and Wilson will be joining forces for the first time since The Cable Guy in an action comedy for director Jared Hess. It's currently untitled, but when the screenplay was still doing the rounds in Hollywood it went by the moniker Loomis Fargo.Emily Spivey wrote the original script, which has since been overhauled by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. The story involves an armoured car driver who channels his disaffection with the job into a plan to liberate $20m from a bank vault. Sadly for him, his cohorts double-cross him, and proceed to live it up on the robbery's proceeds while he's left alone on the run in Mexico.
