Alok was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (present day Serbia), of Indian parents. His father was an executive in an airline whereas his mother a painter (oil on canvas). As a result of his father, he moved to several countries, including France, India, Kenya, Iraq and Oman. He arrived to New York in the mid 80's and received a BBA in International Management. It was there that he happened to study with Argentine actor and director Lorenzo Quinteros, which eventually led Alok to dedicate himself to acting at the relatively late age of 34. He returned to NYC to further his studies and received an MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio Drama School (at the New School University).
