Brinda Karat is an Indian (Bengali) politician, activist and actor. She is a long-time member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M). As an actress, she is known for Amu (2005). The film is about Anti-Sikh riots. Karat has been involved with women's rights and labor rights movements for decades. She has also been interviewed on 60 Minutes.
