Exclusive: Emmy winner Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) has boarded The Ever Curious Man, the first documentary feature from Ivan Cash, as an executive producer.
Patinkin’s wife, actor and writer Kathryn Grody, will also exec produce the project, with Jake Ewald serving as producer.
Focusing on the artistic legacy of sculptor Sydney Cash, a compulsive 80-year-old artist (and the filmmaker’s father), the film explores the staggering beauty and sobering cost of life as an artist. At his advanced age, Cash faces a crossroads. The lease to his biggest storage space of 35 years is ending, forcing the family and him to decide what will happen to all of his work (some pieces 12 feet tall).
How will Sydney’s chronic impulse to produce new work line up with his family’s pleas to pause and get his affairs in order, the film asks? Will a lifetime’s worth of art land in the trash,...

As Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody’s son, Gideon, tells it, his parents’ social media stardom began rather innocently. Grody-Patinkin had moved in with his actor parents early in the pandemic and began interviewing them for what would be a family archive. “I thought they might die from Covid maybe soon-ish, so I was getting them to tell me some stories,” he says via Zoom, to which his father jokes from another square (albeit from the same upstate New York property that they still share): “We’re big on positive thinking here.”
Before long, Grody-Patinkin started uploading videos to social media of Mom and Dad bickering, snuggling, joking and genuinely obsessing over politics. They struck a chord. The couple of 45 years became unlikely social media stars, with more than 2 million followers on TikTok alone. “Suddenly, everyone was asking, ‘What are they going to do next?’” recalls Ewen Wright, the...

Exclusive: Former Showtime development executive Dave Binegar has joined Jax Media in the newly created role of Head of TV. He will work in partnership with Jake Fuller, Jax’s Head of Production.
In his most recent role as VP of Scripted Programming at Showtime, Binegar worked with Jax on the company’s Jonah Kills U.K. comedy pilot, which is gearing up, as well as two seasons of the dramedy Work in Progress and the half-hour romantic comedy pilot Seasoned, starring real-life husband and wife Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody, which was picked up to series but ultimately did not go forward amid the writers strike.
“As we continue to expand the Jax Media brand, we’re thrilled to welcome Dave Binegar to the team,” said Fuller. “Dave’s exceptional taste and incredible instincts as a storyteller across all genres align perfectly with our mission to produce top-tier premium...

We won’t get to see Mandy Patinkin’s adorable real-life marriage become a TV show after all.
Showtime has scrapped four series that were in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter, led by Seasoned, a comedy based on Patinkin and his wife Kathryn Grody’s 43-year marital bond. The comedy, which was first announced last year and earned a six-episode series order at the network, was to star Patinkin and Grody and follow “the delightfully tumultuous relationship and life of a successful, gregarious, deeply committed, slightly insane married couple.”

Showtime will no longer be moving forward with four shows — “Gattaca,” “Seasoned,” “Split” and “Sweetness” — TheWrap can confirm.
The decision not to move forward with “Gattaca” came down to financials, a source familiar with the matter told TheWrap. At present, Showtime is interested in investing more in IP the network owns versus leased IP.
All projects will have the opportunity to be shopped elsewhere.
Little is known about the four projects, which were in development. Alex Gansa was announced to showrun and executive produce “Gattaca,” the TV adaptation of the 1997 sci-fi movie, with Gansa’s partner Howard Gordon executive producing. “Seasoned” was a scripted comedy from Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody that is based on their real-life relationship. “Sweetness” came from writer, director and producer Nick Stoller and Oscar-winner Emerald Fennell and has been described as a “female-driven anthology project.” Even less is known about “Split.”

Update: Three months after the Gattaca reboot TV series was first announced comes the news that the project has been scrapped by Showtime. In addition to the Gattaca series, Showtime also axed Seasoned, a comedy inspired by the lives of real-life married couple Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody, as well as Sweetness and Split, two projects that had been in development. Gattaca will have the opportunity to be shopped elsewhere, so it’s possible we may still see the reboot series.

Gattaca remains one of my favourite movies, but that doesn’t make it immune from receiving the reboot treatment. Chris McCarthy continues to slim down Showtime’s content pipeline.
The premium cable network has passed on four projects: the reboot of Gattaca that would have brought Homeland duo Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa back to the Paramount Global outlet as well as Seasoned, the comedy inspired by the lives of married couple Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody that had previously had a series order. Also getting the pass are two projects that had been in development — Split and Sweetness.
Sony Pictures Television, which produces Gattaca and Sweetness, plans to shop both projects.
Showtime declined to comment.
The passes come after Chris McCarthy added oversight of Showtime to his purview last year, giving him control of nearly all of Paramount Global’s linear networks including MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Network, among others. This week, Showtime programming was folded into Paramount+ in a bid to provide the streamer with the...

Showtime is not moving forward with a number of projects, including a “Gattaca” series adaptation as well as the Mandy Patinkin-led series “Seasoned.”
“Gattaca” was first reported as being in development at Showtime back in March, while “Seasoned” was ordered to series at the network in April. In addition, Showtime is also no longer moving forward on development of the projects “Split” and “Sweetness.”
All of the projects were produced by outside studios, which sources say was the reason they were scrapped. Those studios will all have the option to now shop the projects to other outlets.
This is the latest round of development cuts at Showtime and Paramount as a whole in recent months. Once Chris McCarthy added Showtime to his purview, it was reported in March that Showtime had significantly pared down its development slate. Showtime has scrapped a number of greenlit originals including the series remake of Gattaca from Homeland co-creators Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa and Seasoned, a comedy starring real-life husband and wife Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody.
It is also not moving forward with two development projects – Sweetness and Split. Sweetness comes from Nick Stoller and Promising Young Woman Oscar winner Emerald Fennell and is a female-driven anthology project. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sara Bareilles and members of the Broadway community serenaded Times Square Thursday in a show of solidarity with the Writers Guild of America.
At the themed WGA Broadway Day Rally, performers belted out classic show tunes with nods to organizing such as “Do You Hear the People Sing?” from Les Misérables, “Ya Got Trouble” from The Music Man, with references to residuals and streaming and “America” performed by Rent star Adam Pascal and Catch Me if You Can star Norbert Leo Butz, his original understudy. Members from SAG-AFTRA, Actors’ Equity, IATSE and Local 802 AFM, the musicians’ union, attended the rally led by Girls5eva star Paula Pell.
“None of these streets exist. None of your favorite movies exist. None of your favorite TV shows exist without writers. We deserve to live with a living wage,” Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda said, before performing and playing “My Shot” on the keyboard.

A series of changes have taken place at Showtime. Variety has confirmed the network has canceled “Ziwe” after just two seasons and has picked up Mandy Patinkin’s “Seasoned” to series, delivering a six-episode order.
Hosted and executive produced by comedian Ziwe Fumudoh, the talk show focused on presenting trending hot topics concerning race, politics and other cultural issues as well as musical numbers, interviews, guest stars and comedic sketches. Guests on Season 2 included Drew Barrymore, Rowan Blanchard, Blake Griffin, Emily Ratajkowski and Mia Khalifa, among others. The series first debuted in 2021.
With the loss, that leaves Showtime without a current late night talk show following the cancellation of “Desus & Mero” (which Ziwe also served as a writer on before moving to her own show). Additionally, Showtime has made decisions on two of its three comedy pilots, handing out a series order to Mandy Patinkin family comedy Seasoned while passing on The Wood. What’s more, the original movie Heist 88 starring Courtney B. Vance, has moved from Paramount+ to Showtime.
The changes come as McCarthy has identified three different programming groups for his vision of Showtime, which is being rebranded as Paramount+ With Showtime in a bid to better align the streamer and linear network: franchises, diverse cultures and antiheroes.

“Confirmed,” a new docuseries from Dawn Porter, that will trace the modern history of the Supreme Court, and the people, decisions and confirmation battles that have shaped the United States is headed to Showtime, the cable network announced Tuesday. The four-part series will air in early 2023.
Here’s a logline for the docuseries: “From the right to privacy, to access to the ballot, and all rights protected by the Constitution, the nine unelected justices of the Supreme Court have the final word on issues that shape our democracy and daily lives. The series unfolds during a profoundly consequential year, from the historic confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson, the fallout of an unprecedented leak from inside the Court’s chambers, and a Supreme Court, remade by former President Donald Trump, in the wake of overturning Roe v. Can we please talk about those last few, very surprising minutes of The Chi‘s Season 5 premiere?
I was expecting Otis “Douda” Perry to saunter back into the action; despite his ignominious departure at the end of Season 4, there was a real sense of unfinished business about the man. But Quentin “Q” Dickinson? Whom we haven’t seen since the Season 1 finale? The guy many of us thought might be dead? Yeah, I definitely did not think he’d be the person knocking on Tracy’s door in the final moments of Sunday’s episode.

Real-life married couple Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) and Kathryn Grody (The Lemon Sisters) will star in the Seasoned pilot for Showtime. Seasoned will be a half-hour comedy following “the delightfully tumultuous relationship and life of a successful, gregarious, deeply committed, slightly insane married couple played by Patinkin and Grody — roles they’ve been rehearsing for the last 43 years,” the logline describes, per Deadline. “The source of their unending magic is the same as their unending woe: that they’ve stayed together all this time.” The series is created by Ewen Wright and Grody-Patinkin. The couple and their son will executive produce the pilot along with Wright (who will also direct), Tony Hernandez, Brooke Posch, and Isabel Richardson.

On Tuesday, Mandy Patinkin took to Twitter to discuss the personal experience that informed his performance in an iconic scene from The Princess Bride.
Patinkin was prompted to talk about his experience by a TikTok video posted by a young woman named Amanda (Tiktok username: @Alaska_Webb), which was shared with him by one of his sons.
In the video, she shared that her father died of cancer in March. “Princess Bride was always one of his favorite movies,” she said while crying, “and it’s always been one of my favorite movies, and Inigo Montoya was his favorite character from the film.”
Montoya is, of course, the Spanish fencing master played by Patinkin, who faced off in a famous duel scene with Christopher Guest’s character, Count Rugen—aka The Six-Fingered Man—saying, “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father—prepare to die.”

On the short list of post- classic-era comedies I can see over and over again is this beautifully executed Bill Murray crime comedy, which he co-directed. The fact that its basically silly main joke is whining about New York City doesn’t keep it from being hilarious from one end to the other. When it comes time for a getaway to the airport, Manhattan might as well be an impenetrable maze, an island of doom. Geena Davis and Randy Quaid give excellent comedy support, while Jason Robards holds up the police dragnet end of the story. The disc has no special extras but Murray’s movie is as satisfying as ever.

Exclusive: The Good Fight is getting a high-profile new cast addition for Season 5. Emmy and Tony winner Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) is joining the praised Paramount+ drama series as a series regular with a one-year deal.
Patinkin will play Hal Wackner, a layman with no legal training who spontaneously decides to open a court in the back of a copy shop. Against all odds, the court catches on, and the team at Reddick, Boseman & Lockhart find themselves contending with judgements that mean nothing legally, but are honored by much of the entertained public.
This marks Patinkin’s return to television following his eight-season run as CIA vet Saul Berenson on Showtime’s Homeland, which landed him a Golden Globe nomination and four out of his seven Emmy nominations. Patinkin won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role as Dr. Jeffrey Geiger on CBS’ Chicago Hope.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March, many adults returned to their parents’ houses to flee lonely city apartments or sheltering in place with prickly roommates. Gideon Grody-Patinkin, 34, was one of them — but instead of regressing in his childhood bedroom and sniping at Mom and Dad, he helped his father, actor Mandy Patinkin, launch an extremely popular Twitter presence featuring his parents… being parents: fighting, joking, telling stories and being completely clueless about pop culture. Not content to just amuse, however, Patinkin and his actress wife Kathryn Grody soon turned...

Homeland star Mandy Patinkin is an emotional guy, and he’s not afraid to show it. "I have been unbelievably lucky meeting the right woman, my dear wife Kathryn, and having my two glorious sons, Isaac, [36], and Gideon, [32], who've become my parent and teacher at times," the 65-year-old actor exclusively revealed to Closer Weekly in the magazine's latest issue, on newsstands now. And he's just as enthusiastic about aging. "Getting older is one of the great privileges, if you get to live long enough. It’s the most thrilling time I’ve known. You learn things. You're not without struggle, but you have some greater ability to carry on, to not waste the moment and cheer yourself on by saying, 'I did the best I could,'" Mandy said. In The Tempest, one of the last plays William Shakespeare fully authored, the character of Prospero is a conundrum. For 12 years he's been marooned on an island with his young daughter, Miranda. Struggling to survive, he blackmails the spirit Ariel into being his servant and compels the mortal Caliban to be his slave. For reasons equally simple and complex, Prospero is hero and antihero, protagonist and antagonist. Perhaps it's those contradictions that make him the perfect role for Mandy Patinkin to play. For seven months Patinkin has enjoyed a luxury afforded very few actors: He's done little but prepare to play perplexing Prospero, in this case for Classic Stage Company's Off-Broadway production of The Tempest. For the first three months, he logged three to four hours a day, including Saturdays and Sundays, meeting with Shakespeare scholar Rachel Chavkin and analyzing each line of the play, "translating it into English,...
