"John Garden" was a pseudonym of Harry Lutf Verne Fletcher (1902-1974), a novelist and topographical write born in Christchurch, Hampshire. For most of his life he was a teacher and lived at Llandrindod, Radnorshire. Under his own name he published works including The Woman's House (1943), The Rising Sun (1951) and The Storm (1954). As John Hereford he wrote Shepard's Tump (1947), The May Fair (1948) and A Day to Remember (1950), and as John Garden, Six to Ten (1947), All on a Summer's Day (1949) and Murder isn't Private (1950). Most of Fletcher's work are set in the Welsh Border country.
