"Who brave enough to talk to the dead?" Kaleidoscope Home Ent. has revealed an offiical UK trailer for an indie horror anthology film from the UK titled Lore, which first premiered at FrightFest London last year. It'll be debuting in the UK on the Icon Film Channel for streaming this summer, then in UK theaters and on VOD later in the year. An isolated group of backpackers innocently tell their favourite spooky stories around a campfire, unaware that with each word they say, they unleash another supernatural horror into reality. A "gripping and gruesome anthology horror", this acclaimed film stars Richard Brake, Andrew Lee Potts, Bill Fellows, and Rufus Hound. Featuring three segments directed by James Bushe, Patrick Ryder, and Greig Johnson. As usual with anthology films, one or two of these segments look way better than the others. The wooden masks look very creepy, but the other mask does not.

It’s never too early to review Christmas movies is it?! In fact, this isn’t the first Christmas horror movie I’ve reviewed for Nerdly this year, but now it’s November expect a few more. Splinter shows a man whose wife and son were murdered over Christmas, and he has now become a recluse. Despite Christmas now being long gone, the decorations and tree are still up, and he believes something or someone is watching him. Is it the ghosts of his wife and son, or something much worse?
Director David Bryant does a good job of making you forget about the movie’s low budget. He keeps the film character-driven, with plenty of dialogue and a strong story. It’s a brave move in...

John William Polidori was in the room with Mary Shelley, Lord Byron, and Percy Shelley when they issued the storytelling challenge that resulted in Mary Shelley writing Frankenstein. Polidori’s contribution to this challenge was the short story The Vampyre, published in 1819 – and Deadline reports that Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) has signed on to star in an adaptation of The Vampyre that’s called The Vampyre: Blood & Ink.
First-time writer Rosanna Hamlin is working with playwright Trisha Ward on the screenplay. The story begins with Lord Ruthven, a mysterious and magnetic nobleman who captivates London society with his charismatic charm. Aubrey, a young Englishman, becomes infatuated with Ruthven and is drawn into a world of secrets and supernatural horror. As Aubrey uncovers the truth about Ruthven’s sinister nature, he finds himself trapped in a perilous battle against the allure of the vampire’s deadly powers. Deadline notes that...

Exclusive: A feature adaptation of John William Polidori’s classic 19th-century gothic novel The Vampyre, one of the first English language novels to feature blood-sucking creatures, is in the works at Milky Way Media and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) and Derek Jacobi (Murder on the Orient Express) are attached to lead.
We understand production on the pic, titled The Vampyre: Blood & Ink, is set to begin later this year across the UK and Northern Italy. Director is currently under wraps, but the screenplay is by debut writer Rosanna Hamlin, and playwright and director, Trisha Ward (Nightshriek/The Two Wolves), who will both work with producers John Ward, John Dodds, and associate producer Jamie Bulman (The Two Wolves).
Frances Barber, Amelia Gething, Amelia Clarkson, and Bill Fellows (Ted Lasso) are also attached to the pic.
Written in 1819, Polidori’s The Vampyre precedes Bram Stoker’s Dracula by nearly a hundred years and holds wide significance within the gothic genre. The Vampyre: Blood & Ink will depict Polidori’s dark account of the famed and mythical creatures. Pic will begin with Lord Ruthven, a mysterious and magnetic nobleman who captivates London society with his charismatic charm.
The film will also explore how Polidori is confronted with his own inner demons and forbidden desires by telling the story of how he becomes obsessed with his real-life contemporary, Lord George Byron, who becomes an allegory for the character he has created – Lord Ruthven. When these obsessions are revealed, Polidori descends into madness as his mind slowly merges with the fictional character of Aubrey.
“Polidori’s novel was the source material for many for of the vampire stories that we now know and love and that are so pivotal to centuries of gothic storytelling,” said Ward, Producer, and Co-Founder of Milky Way Media. “This is the origin story that preceded Bram Stoker’s iconic Dracula – and it is time this original version was brought to the big screen. We’re eager to breathe new life into this iconic tale, with an incredible cast and the extraordinary writing talents of Rosie and Trisha.”
Hamlin added: “John Polidori is the father of vampiric literature as we know it and we have him to thank, for everything from Dracula to The Vampire Diaries. To date, he has been an overlooked pioneer of Gothic fiction, so it has been a pleasure to revisit this unparalleled novel and rediscover the timeless allure of the vampire mythos. This story is based around the balance of desire and darkness, love and horror, and the complexity of the mind.”...

[This story contains spoilers from “So Long, Farewell,” the third season — and possible series — finale of Ted Lasso.]
All season long, the people who make Ted Lasso have been somewhat coy about whether the end of their planned three-season arc would mark the end of the series. Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence and others have said multiple times that this season would mark the end of what they set out to do, while never quite stating that it would definitively close out the series.
The last installment of season three, “So Long, Farewell,” played no such games. The episode felt every bit like a series finale, with callbacks to the past and flash-forwards to the futures of several key characters (imagined or not; more on that in a few paragraphs). The fact that Ted Lasso is Apple TV+’s biggest series by far to date might mean that the streamer and Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show, might find a way to make a sequel or spinoff featuring...

At first glance, John’s (Bill Fellows) home might look inviting. It’s neat and clean and the Christmas tree is up, as if it’s just waiting to be filled up with laughter and good cheer. But the light streaming in around the edges of the closed curtains is warm and bright, not the light of winter. Time has stopped; life has gone out of this house. Struggling to come to terms with it all, John repeats the same daily routine, as separate from the rest of the world as he can make himself, waiting for something to change. What he most needs to face is what he finds hardest to think about.
This may sound like a recipe for a dull film, and its a slow burn, but Fellows is a good enough actor to hold viewers’ attention as elements of the mystery surrounding him gradually slot into place.

On the set of Splinter
The past decade has seen a revolution in independent film production, with increasingly affordable technology making it possible for far more people to get involved. As a consequence, there has been a flood of new works. The quality of the stories they have to tell varies enormously, but where they’ve been made with love and attention to detail, there’s usually something to enjoy about them. Still, they mostly look pretty rough. David Bryant’s Splinter is an intriguing exception. Though the plot is fairly straightforward, it features a solid central performance from Bill Fellows, and the quality of the technical work involved is really impressive – extraordinary for such a small scale production.
The man behind it all is writer/director/producer David Bryant, who shot it in his own home and is hoping to see it released in the UK within the next few weeks.

Gravitas Ventures has given a digital release to writer/director David Bryant’s new psychological chiller Splinter, and to help you decide whether or not this is a movie you’d like to see, we have the trailer embedded at the top of this article. If you do want to check Splinter out, you can do so at This Link.
Starring Bill Fellows (Coronation Street), Splinter tells the following story: Following the murder of his family, John becomes a recluse, trapped inside his home. Surrounded by memories, he believes someone, or something, is watching him. Could it be the ghosts of his wife and son, or something far worse?
Splinter was produced by Filo Films and Sea and Sky Pictures.
Bryant had this to say about the film: “I wanted to tell a traditionally haunting tale full of tension but present it in a realistic portrayal of one man’s mental breakdown.

This disarmingly sincere autobiopic tackles a northern lad’s struggles with disability with an unselfpitying eye, evoking the goodwill of vintage of British studio-era films
While we’re waiting for Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham AFC film, here is a lower-league paean to Darlington Fc in the shape of a sometimes clunky but disarmingly sincere autobiopic. It’s written by Paul Hodgson, dramatising his own upbringing after a diagnosis of meningococcal meningitis as a 10-month-old; he was predicted to live only a few short years. Yet, though in a wheelchair with speech and motor-coordination issues, he grows up (played by Daniel Watson) to become a hard-drinking Quakers fan with a lively social life. At home though, he is saddled with being the middleman between fractious mum Alice (Toyah Willcox) and sullen dad Norman (Bill Fellows) who – “robbed of a son” – has checked out of life.

Torment is, essentially, an overwrought drama, with a supernatural bent, about the loss of a child; and sees a mother, Jane, played by Cora Fenton, target and architect as the killer of her child, proceeding to kidnap and interrogate him – all the while seemingly cracking from the pressure of losing her daughter.
Directed by Jason Figgis, who’s career – until this film – has consisted mainly of low-budget exploitation fare like the Grindsploitation series, film has two plot strands: a distraught mother coping with the loss of a child and an apparent child-murderer, trapped underground in a wooden box with only a webcam and a breathing tube being his connection to the outside world. Anybody who had to do Macbeth at school know the enigmatic Lady Macbeth, and what her part was in the play. This version though, based on Nikolai Leskov’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk is not a tale of insanity, but of pure selfish evil.
In rural England 1865, Katherine (Florence Pugh) is stuck in her loveless marriage to a bitter man who holds no love for her. When he and his father leave her alone on the estate, she falls for a young worker Sabastian (Cosmo Jarvis). With the risk of her affair being revealed, what ends will she go to in order to protect herself?
The character of Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare’s play is interesting because of the downfall of her character.

"A seductive mix of sex and murder." Roadside Attractions has unveiled a trailer for the film Lady Macbeth, an adaptation of Nikolai Leskov's novella "Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk". This classic period piece thriller is set during the 19th century, and involves a young woman being sold into a marriage with a middle-aged man that abuses her, so she figures out a way to get rid of him. Florence Pugh plays Katherine, and the cast includes Christopher Fairbank, Cosmo Jarvis, Bill Fellows, Paul Hilton, Naomi Ackie, and Ian Conningham. This already premiered at film festivals earlier this fall, and is also playing at the Sundance Film Festival coming up in January. Not really my kind of film, but might be interesting to some. See below. Here's the official Us trailer for William Oldroyd's Lady Macbeth, originally from Yahoo: In this adaptation of Nikolai Leskov's novella "Lady Macbeth...

One of the best films of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival will be arriving next year, but first — before it stops by Sundance Film Festival next month — Roadside Attractions has released the first trailer. Lady Macbeth marks the directorial debut of William Oldroyd, an experienced theater director who has adapted Nikolai Leskov’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, telling the story of a woman’s path for revenge in England in 1865.
We said in our review,” If Pugh is a revelation, so is Oldroyd. This is an auspicious and striking debut film that spells the start of a genuinely talented filmmaker as he handles his camera in breathtakingly spacey and formidable fashion. He creates an indelible character in Lady Katherine, a woman that is not easily understood, but dares to break the conventions of the times by doing unspeakable things. Oldroyd captures our gaze with every frame and doesn...

Usually it wouldn’t bode well for a film when a) it has a generic title like Vampires; and b) when you discover it’s actual title is Bloodless, the very opposite of what you want from a vampire movie… Give me flesh-tearing vampires ripping people apart anyday thanks! But, all prejudices aside, I was still willing to give this British scary movie a shot – mainly in part to one of the films stars, Victoria Hopkins, and its producer, Steve O’Brien. Both names whom you probably aren’t that familiar with but both of whom worked on Zombie Women of Satan. A film who – even to this day – it seems like I’m the only fan of (that was certainly the case after its screening at Frightfest in 2009).

After a trip to a brothel… sorry, “Massage parlour”, Kyle finds himself in an awkward situation. He has contracted chlamydia from one of the employees of the fine establishment and now has to not have sex with his fiancée for three months to prevent any possibility of it spreading or worse, her finding out what he has done.
Almost Married is a British romantic comedy starring Philip McGinley as the lead man, Kyle. Filled with crude ‘lad’ humour, Kyle and Jarvis stumble from drunken night to drunken night as they try many different solutions to avoid revealing Kyle’s secret.
