- Cousin of Jane Curtin.
- She was cast in the original Three's Company (1976) pilot, that was shot in March 1976. She played Jenny, an early version of Janet Wood, while Susanne Zenor played Samantha, an early version of Chrissy Snow. Both actresses had beat out many candidates, including Joyce DeWitt and Suzanne Somers. John Ritter said that Curtin and Zenor were "really, really fun" but Fred Silverman disagreed and cast De Witt and Somers instead.
- In 1982, Valerie portrayed "Judy Bernly" on the television remake of the film, 9 to 5 (1980), resuming the role originated by Jane Fonda. After the first season, Curtin departed from the series, but later returned for the unsuccessful syndicated version, a few years later.
- Daughter of Joseph Lawrence Curtin (July 29. 1910 - April 5, 1979) and Valeria Emma Yochem ( August 27, 1904 - August 5, 1985).
- Attended Lake Erie College.
- A member of The Committee, a comedy group, in Los Angeles in the early 70s.
- Best known on screen as the befuddled waitress in 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore' and as the frightened political aide in 'All the President's Men'.
