The “Bluebeard”-like hook of splendors granted on one condition — never, ever enter a household’s specific forbidden zone — raises expectations of a spooky, macabre good time. Those expectations are almost entirely thwarted by “Cellar Door,” even to the degree of our never actually peeking behind the titular locked portal. Starring Jordana Brewster and Scott Speedman as a couple gifted luxe new digs with the aforementioned proviso, Vaughn Stein’s thriller is too simplistic and implausible to provide any chills. But despite some lurid eventual plot elements, it’s also too blandly slick in a TV-movie mode to offer much trashy fun. Lionsgate launches the feature in limited U.S. theaters plus on-demand platforms on Nov. 1.

Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute two films in the saga this summer – the first on June 28, 2024, followed quickly by the second on August 16, 2024. The first film is rated R for violence, some nudity, and sexuality.

Kevin Costner is also a big fan of physical media, and when asked by Deadline about the supposed “death of the DVD,” he was quick to jump to its defence.

“Death of the what? DVD is not dead, at all,” Kevin Costner said. “That’s what they’d have you believe. Maybe it’s not making the same amount of money, but just try to go ask for that from the studio. They won’t give that up. A lot of people that like my movies, they can’t get to a theater, and they’re waiting for that moment. You can’t make your film for the opening weekend. You have to make it for its life.

Regular readers of this site may be already aware just how much I’m looking forward to the most ambitious Kevin Costner project in years. It’s Horizon: An American Saga, a series of four films that Costner is part-funding. Just as with his last directorial effort, the brilliant 2003 western Open Range, he’s independently funded the movie, and brought in distributors afterwards.

In the US, it’s New Line Cinema – and thus Warner Bros – that’s going to be releasing the first two films, both of which are coming out this summer. The first lands in June, the second lands in August, and both are getting US cinema releases.

Kevin Costner on Monday shared on socials a first trailer for Horizon, the two-part Western epic that played a role in his growing frustrations with his Yellowstone experience.

Before the WGA strike began last May, Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan had completed scripts for the back half of the show’s fifth season that did not include Costner, whose alleged demands had been widely reported. Per the industry-insider newsletter Puck, Costner’s reps later expressed his desire to return for Season 5B and possibly more.

No resleeves this time – we must bid adieu to Netflix’s Altered Carbon. Actually, it was time to bid adieu to Altered Carbon months ago. According to reports, the streaming service called time on the pricey sci-fi drama series all the way back in April, but news of the show’s cancellation didn’t reach any of us until now, for reasons best known to Netflix.

Unlike Netflix’s recent choice to drop sophomore seasons of both The Society and I Am Not Ok With This, the decision not to pursue a potential third season of Laeta Kalogridis’ cyberpunk adaptation had nothing to do with pandemic logistics, Deadline confirms. It was just a standard case of ye olde “viewership vs. cost renewal review process” for Altered Carbon, which is arguably less comforting for fans of the series.

Netflix has canceled its science-fiction series “Altered Carbon” after two seasons.

The series featured both Joel Kinnaman and Anthony Mackie as the lead character, Takeshi Kovacs. It was based on Richard K. Morgan’s novel of the same name, which took place in a society where the human mind has been digitized, thus giving people the ability to upload their mind into new bodies (referred to as “sleeves”).

Kinnaman played the character in season and Mackie took over for season two. In Morgan’s book series, Kovacs’ story spans hundreds of years, many different bodies and planets.

The decision comes months after the conclusion of Altered Carbon Season 2, which arrived February 27.

Altered Carbon Season 2 was followed by an anime movie in March, but things have been silent since.

It was thought that the series was in limbo due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which hit mere weeks after the serialized drama returned.

Deadline says that the decision is not due to Covid-19 and is actually based on how many viewers watched the second season.

The series did come with a hefty price tag, which would mean that the streamer would be looking for it to overperform in the ratings.

The second season, despite drawing decent reviews and led by Anthony Mackie, did not garner nearly as much buzz as its first season.

Netflix has removed Altered Carbon‘s stack and stomped on it, hard: The sci-fi drama has been cancelled and will not return for Season 3.

“Altered Carbon” has been canceled at Netflix, Variety has confirmed.

The second season of the sci-fi series aired on the streaming service back in February, while the first season aired in 2018. An anime special titled “Resleeved,” which was set before the events of Season 1, was released in 2019.

The series was based on the novel of the same name by Richard K. Morgan. It followed the adventures of interstellar warrior Takeshi Kovacs, who was played by Joel Kinnaman in Season 1 and by Anthony Mackie in Season 2. According to an individual with knowledge of the decision, the decision to cancel the show was made due to Netflix’s traditional approach of cost versus viewership of a series.

Last week, it was announced that Netflix had pulled the plug on both “The Society” and “I’m Not Okay With This” due to budgetary issues surrounding increased health and safety costs related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to sources close to Wgtc – the same ones who told us Percy Jackson is being rebooted as a streaming series and an Extraction sequel is in development, both of which were correct – Netflix wants to do at least five seasons of its critically acclaimed sci-fi drama, Altered Carbon. Takeshi Kovacs can’t smile. That’s just a fact or, better put, a defining facet of “Altered Carbon’s” lead character. After watching the first 10 hours of Netflix’s sci-fi adaptation — about a future where a person’s brain can be digitized into a portable “stack,” and then swapped into a new body to achieve immortality — it was clear the 300-year-old Envoy played (mostly) by Joel Kinnaman can fight well, shoot even better, and have remarkably nimble sex for a three-times-over centenarian.

But following that first season, my own digitized stack can only produce images of an angry Kinnaman, a sad Kinnaman, and, the most popular version, a confused Kinnaman, who’s blank face offers only the faintest hint of curiosity. The actor known for similarly hard-edged action roles in “Robocop” and “Suicide Squad” could dutifully perform Kovacs’ functions, just like his military-trained interstellar warrior, but he cannot smile.

The last time we saw Altered Carbon‘s Takeshi Kovacs, he was turning in hiscurrent body — which happened to look a lot like Season 1 star Joel Kinnaman — and pondering how he’d find his long-lost love, Quellcrist Falconer.

When we catch up with Kovacs at the start of the sci-fi drama’s Season 2, which begins streaming Thursday on Netflix, he’s undergone some major changes — and new series lead Anthony Mackie says some are more obvious than others.

For a start, it begins 30 years after the end of Season 1, and finds Takeshi Kovacs (Anthony Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry).

After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs is recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell.

Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same.

Netflix dropped its first-look teaser for the upcoming second season of “Altered Carbon” on Tuesday — meaning fans of the sci-fi series got their first look at Anthony Mackie as Takeshi Kovacs.

Watch the video above, in which Takeshi, played by Joel Kinnaman in Season 1, transforms into his Mackie-shaped skin.

The 50-second clip is narrated by the “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” star, who begins by saying, “This is a ghost story,” as he steps into frame, revealing only his legs.

Lela Loren has already lined up her return to the small screen.

The former Power actress will play Danica Harlan in the second season of Altered Carbon.

Netflix has confirmed that her casting was kept under wraps, and the actress has already filmed all of her scenes in Vancouver, British Columbia.

It's not surprising that the news was kept quiet, especially when you consider that Loren exited her series regular role on Power on Sunday.

Power Season 6 Episode 1 was a wild start to the sixth and final season, and I won't be going into detail on that one in case you have yet to watch the episode.

Loren’s character on Altered Carbon is called Danica Harlan.

She is the charming and ambitious governor of planet Harlan's World. She has the support of the people but keeps an uneasy grip on the political players who surround her.
