Jeff Arch developed the story and screenplay for "Sleepless in Seattle" in the early 1990s while residing in the historic Buckley House (1896) in Clifton, VA, according to the house marker. Robert R. Buckley, the first mayor of Clifton, built the home for his bride, Anna (Bess) Detwiler. Clifton is approximately 30 miles outside Washington, D.C.
