One of the most divisive love interests in Shonen Jump's history landed a character designer the opportunity of a lifetime. A new Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War interview revealed how an artist for the anime won over series creator Tite Kubo with his take on Orihime Inoue.
Viz Media released a behind-the-scenes interview with one of the anime's staff. Masashi Kudo, the character designer for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, was interviewed about his experience in the anime industry and the current Shonen Jump series. He revealed that the 2002 Tokyo Mew Mew anime was his first big break in the industry, establishing a connection with director Noriyuki Abe, who would go on to direct the 2004 Bleach series and many of its theatrical films. As a member of "Team Abe," Kudo heard that Studio Pierrot was looking for a character designer for the first Bleach anime series. This is where the interview gets very interesting.

Shonen anime are marketed toward a young male audience, and those stories tend to follow precocious heroes and focus on adventure and battle. If there are any romances, they tend to be a subplot, at best. There are some exceptions, like InuYasha, where the plot is driven by a few romances.
Male love interests in shonen anime vary in personalities and character types. Some are pale-haired kuuderes with cool and polite exteriors, and deep emotional interiors. Some are explosive tsunderes, like the reformed villainous prince Vegeta, who can always be relied on for entertaining drama, especially if their love interest is nearby.

(Welcome to Ani-time Ani-where, a regular column dedicated to helping the uninitiated understand and appreciate the world of anime.)
While there are countless types of stories told in the anime medium, there is one genre that is king: the action shonen. It's the most popular genre there is, but it's not without problems. Shows like "Naruto" and "Dragon Ball" tend to follow a very specific formula without much change, which means even the slightest variation on the formula — like making the protagonist a 30-year-old and not an angsty high schooler — makes for something exciting.
One of the biggest tropes of the genre, one that "Dragon Ball" perfected and made its bread and butter, is the idea of training to fight. Specifically, it is the idea that training is everything, and that fighting is the purest form of living. "Dragon Ball Z" has Goku constantly abandon his wife and kids because...

The following contains spoilers for various manga/anime franchises.
The new Bleach anime has introduced the most powerful and consequential villain yet, King Yhwach. He is the leader and father of all Quincy, and he's the one who aims to topple the Soul King to create a new world order where the Quincy tribe may live in peace. That calls for some strong leadership and tactical skills, and Yhwach delivers, leading the charge to defeat the Royal Guard before absorbing the Soul King himself. Yhwach's simple but effective master plan has paid off, and he's on the cusp of ultimate victory.
King Yhwach is clearly a crafty villain who knows what he's doing, but he's still not the smartest, most ingenious anime antagonists fans have ever seen. Plenty of villains in other anime are even more brilliant than Yhwach, crafting mind-bending schemes that keep the heroes guessing until the very end.

The story of Bleach has presented its final supervillain: King Yhwach, the father of all Quincy and the leader of the Wandenreich. He has already established himself as an enormous threat to Ichigo Kurosaki and the Soul Reapers, invading the Soul Society and butchering countless Soul Reapers en route to his ultimate goal, slaying the Soul King to collapse the three worlds back into one. Those are some serious stakes, but despite the danger, Yhwach is still halfway sympathetic, since he wants to create a world where the Quincy tribe may belong.
That doesn't fully justify what Yhwach is doing, but it does take the edge off his villainy, since rather few villains fight for the sake of others. So, while Yhwach is still a monster who needs to be taken down, anime fans may agree that a handful of other anime villains are definitely more evil than Yhwach, no...

Major sneaker brand Puma and iconic Shonen Jump series Bleach are joining forces for an exclusive sneaker collection combining fashion and anime. The drop commemorates the first animes 20th anniversary, releasing two designs inspired by fan-favorite characters Ichigo Kurosaki and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez.
Releasing for sale on Nov. 15, 2024, the collection gives its two most iconic sneaker silhouettes a Bleach-themed restyling, along with other apparel options. The Ichigo-inspired Palermo pair channels the character's fiery personality -- and matching hair color -- with its eye-catching orange laces, which get an extra pop against the shoe's black leather base. It's an unmistakably Ichigo tribute, made all the more emphatic by the sneaker's graphic of the character himself. Meanwhile, the Delphin sneakers sport flame graphics across a black-and-white leather body. The fire design is blue, just like Grimmjow's hair, and a smokey black Formstrip adds to the apparel's intense, Grimmjow-appropriate aesthetic. Both shoes feature suede detailing,...

Tite Kubo has created plenty of dynamic characters for Bleach. Each character has their own place which lends to the development of the plot. Some of them have eventually become fan favorites. But the huge number of characters means that not everyone can receive appropriate screentime.
As Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Part 3 is in full swing, fans have started missing scenes from a few of these characters. As it turns out, even the staff of the series miss a few characters.

The majority of Bleach Tybw episode 29 focused on Ukitake’s sacrifice to become the soul king and his past. While the flashback certainly added more clarity to Ukitake’s condition, the situation at the Soul Society is still dire.
Unaware of the situation developing with Ukitake, Yhwach claims that he has won and that he had no more reason to fight. However, things are only getting worse for Ichigo, as he is now face to face with his friend turned enemy, Uryu Ishida.
Bleach Tybw episode 30 will feature 12 minutes of anime only content, and hopefully, it will give a more detailed account of Uryu and Ichigo’s battle.

In a recent interview with Daisuke Sakuma on his radio talk show, Bleach creator Tite Kubo shared insights into his creative process, revealing that he kept his editor at arm’s length, never allowing him to interfere in the manga.
“I’m the type of writer who doesn’t really have meetings with my editor,” Kubo stated.
Unlike many manga creators who frequently consult with their editors, Kubo preferred to work on his own terms.

Sakuma expressed surprise at this approach, noting that it’s common for editors to be heavily involved in shaping a manga’s story.
