Tim Burton’s movies are usually made with much love, care, and attention to detail which several directors do not usually show. However, his latest flick may have made a complete mess of things.

Ghouls, long faces, comedy, and equal amounts of horror usually create a Tim Burton film. His latest flick Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (or simply Beetlejuice 2) was a chaotic mess of all of these things, but somewhere, something was missing.

We all have our hobbies and favorite interests when we were teenagers, and so does Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz in Tim Burton’s original 1988 Beetlejuice film. She loved photography, and many fans resonated with her character’s fondness for creative art, but this was seemingly absent in the sequel.

Other characters showcased their different interests in the follow-up film, but Lydia’s arc seemed to focus on the Ghost House TV program and her complicated relationship with Jenna Ortega’s Astrid.
Beetlejuice 3 Needs to Bring Back This Iconic Lydia Deetz Hobby
After the commercial success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, many fans have been wondering if Tim Burton plans to make another sequel so much as to wrap the story into a trilogy. It is only fitting given the open ending that leaves a possibility of a continuation; however, the director once told THR: “Well,...

Our top pick this week, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” may not seem like an Academy Awards contender at first glance, but our predictions indicate it’s likely to earn a nomination for Best Makeup & Hairstyling. It’s quite an achievement turning Michael Keaton into the freaky “bio-exorcist” Betelgeuse.
Tim Burton returns to direct this nearly 40-years-in-the-making sequel, which reunites original film stars Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara and adds Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Burton’s “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega. This time, Lydia (Ryder) agrees to marry Betelegeuse in order to enter the Netherworld and save her daughter Astrid (Ortega). It’s a darkly whimsical sequel that’s Burton’s best film in a decade, and it’s now available on Max.
Here are some other movies to stream this weekend:

Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is now available to stream exclusively on Max as of Friday, December 6th.
An American Sign Language (Asl) version of the film is also available to stream on Max in the U.S. and Europe, along with a Língua Brasileira de Sinais (Libras) version in Brazil.
Arriving 36 years after Tim Burton’s original Beetlejuice film, the sequel reunites original cast members Michael Keaton (playing Mr. Juice himself), Winona Ryder (Lydia), and Catherine O’Hara (Delia) — plus new additions Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe (ghost detective Wolf Jackson), Monica Bellucci (Beetlejuice’s wife), and more.
In the film, Ortega’s Astrid doesn’t seem to care for her mother too much, nor does she believe in ghosts — that is, until she stumbles upon the model of Winter River and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. Lydia then calls on an old friend to save her daughter.

Johnny Depp can easily be one of the most sought-after and bankable actors in the industry with movies that have grossed billions at the box office. Out of all the projects, he’s most well known for playing Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Despite this success, the past couple of years have been quite difficult for him both personally and professionally.

He married actress Amber Heard in 2015, and just a year later she filed for divorce and also accused the actor of being verbally and physically abusive. While the duo settled their divorce, in 2019 the actor sued Heard for defamation, the same which led Disney to drop the actor from the franchise.
The famous Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial also followed, in which the actor emerged victorious by clearing his name.

It took thirty-six years, but director Tim Burton finally got around to making a sequel to his 1988 hit Beetlejuice – and with that sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, having made over $450 million at the global box office, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that Warner Bros. wants another sequel. Burton has said not to expect Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice from him… but perhaps he could be persuaded. We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, Burton has completely ruled out the idea of making sequels to two other films on his résumé, Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Speaking with IndieWire, Burton said, “There are certain films I don’t want to make a sequel to. I didn’t want to make a sequel to (Edward Scissorhands) because it felt like a one-off thing. I didn’t want to have a sequel for The Nightmare Before Christmas because it also felt like a one-off thing.

There’s a great scene in 1993’s classic time-loop comedy Groundhog Day, where Bill Murray’s character experiences a near-perfect day with Andie MacDowell’s Rita, but messes up right at the end, missing his chance to kiss her. On his next loop, he tries to recreate their perfect day for a second chance and fails miserably because all his efforts feel forced and desperate. That’s pretty much what it feels like to watch Tim Burton’s long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel, which tries extremely hard to remind you why you loved the original 1988 movie, but ends up feeling like an incoherent mess, frantically shouting, “Remember this bit? What about this bit?”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice joins the characters 36 years after the events of the first movie.

“Come to me, hear my call,” murmurs Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp) in Robert Eggers’ full-blown Gothic melodrama Nosferatu. She’s speaking not to her husband Thomas (Nicholas Hoult), a young estate agent who’s journeying to the jagged, windswept Carpathians on business, but to his undead client Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård), whose sulphurous powers have scrawled his signature upon her heart and soul as clearly as he scribbles his John Hancock on the property deeds for a new home in Wisborg, Northern Germany.
Come to me. Eggers is here obeying a similar call. Enraptured by F.W. Murnau’s 1922 masterpiece Nosferatu: A Symphony Of Horror since eyeing it, aged nine, on VHS, he mounted a stage play in high school and has been yearning to fashion a big-screen version since 2015. Tim Burton may have reawakened the Ghost With the Most in the recently released sequel to his 1988 comedy-horror film “Beetlejuice,” but that didn’t seem to convince the filmmaker to revisit some of his other classics.

Francis Ford Coppola faced one of his biggest failures this year with his aspirational yet risky epic sci-fi movie. Megalopolis presents the Catilinarian conspiracy in an alternate setting of a 21st Century New York stylized as the new Rome, but it failed to impress.
The movie may have the backing of talented stars like Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Shia Labeouf, and others, but it didn’t help ease the boredom felt by the viewers. The epic made on a budget of $136 million not only tanked at the box office, but also made audiences yawn when they tried to watch it till the end.

From Agatha to Elphaba, it’s been a season of witches on film and television. But whatever charms witches conjure in the narratives that entertain us, the Mubi documentary “Witches” shows how ideas about too powerful, too magical women have variously defined and reinforced the contradictions of femininity; and yet also helped women make sense of themselves.
Director Elizabeth Sankey does this using the medium of film itself, telling her own story of a post-partum depression severe enough to require psychiatric treatment through speaking directly to camera, through talking-head interviews with friends and experts alike, and through an archive’s worth of relevant film clips. The more montages Sankey weaves together of girls, mothers, psychiatric patients, and, of course, witches, the easier it is for us to see how our media archetypes cast a spell that can settle deep into our bones.

Netflix's "Stranger Things" is so infused with the paranormal that a central season 1 arc features a lost family member communicating from the other side. Granted, the "other side" here is the decrepit alternate dimension called Upside Down, and the very alive Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is simply using its strange logic to communicate with his mother Joyce (Winona Ryder). Still, the sentiment is there, and the show eventually reveals that certain people do seem to return from the dead.
One of them is Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine), the ominous doctor who's responsible for the tests performed on psychokinetic powerhouses like Jane "Eleven" Hopper (Millie Bobby Brown) and the series' big bad Vecna, aka Henry "One" Creel (Jamie Campbell Bower). WB has announced the sequel will hit Max by the end of next week. The film opens with the funeral of the Deetz patriarch, which the official description refers to as an “unexpected family tragedy” yet isn’t that unexpected at all if you check up on Jeffrey Jones’ police report. Lydia and Delia return to the spooky manor they once called home, which still has the model of the entire town in its attic. It doesn’t take long for Astrid, Lydia’s offspring, to summon Beetlejuice and things get wild and stop-motiony once again. Not only is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice a reunion between director Tim Burton and original stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, it also has Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s kid and was written by...

Together with Jerry and David Zucker, he transformed satire into an art form, inspiring generations of comedians and filmmakers and leaving an indelible mark on the world of comedy,” said the National Comedy Center executive director Journey Gunderson in a statement.

Normal People was a masterpiece in every definition of the word. Being a painful story wrapped in a thick blanket of romance, it left a lasting impact on everyone who watched it. It eventually became a classic, in the same league as Fleabag and Scenes From A Marriage. One of the biggest reasons for this is the chemistry between Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal.

The bond that the two actors share has almost become controversial at times. However, it was nothing but beneficial for the series, with it acting like a living, breathing entity within the series. Tim Burton’s scary good sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” will soon haunt your house from your home screen.
The long awaited sequel is coming to Max on Dec. 6 after it released in theaters in September. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” did well at the box office, where it opened to $110 million domestically, which was the second highest debut in September ever. In total, it made more than $450 million at the global box office.
After 36 years, the return of the 1988 Halloween fan-favorite brought back the vindictively hilarious loverboy ghost, Beetlejuice, played by Michael Keaton; the gothic queen herself, Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder; and Catherine O’Hara as Lydia’s stepmom Delia Deetz.
The sequel also introduced new faces like Jenna Ortega, who plays Astrid, the third generation of Deetz women; Monica Bellucci, who plays Beetlejuice’s ex-wife Delores; Willem Dafoe as the charmingly helpless Wolf Jackson; Arthur Conti as the boy-next-door, Jeremy Frazie; and an appearance by Danny Devito,...

Winona Ryder recently suited up in the goth blacks again as she reprised her role as Lydia Deets in the smash hit sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Our Eic, Chris Bumbray, had a blast with the film, saying in his recent review, “In it, Burton is wise enough to play the hits to a certain extent, as it is not all that different from the original. Yet, by doing a movie that’s so deliberately old school, with practical effects, rude humor, and Way more gore than you’d expect from a PG-13 movie, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice almost feels transgressive by how much it plays to the strengths of its director and cast, and discards the trappings of most modern blockbusters.”

Bridget Fonda is the daughter of Peter Fonda, the granddaughter of Henry Fonda, and the niece of Jane Fonda, so it only seemed natural that she would become an actor. She started appearing on stage as a girl and appeared in "Easy Rider" with her father when she was only five years old.
Fonda would go on to study method acting at the famed Lee Strassberg Theater. She started appearing in films only two years after graduating at NYU. Acting was in her blood and it seemed like she never considered doing anything else. From 1988 to 2002, Fonda appeared in dozens of high-profile Hollywood films, and was nominated for two Golden Globes and an Emmy. She retired unexpectedly in 2002 and hasn't been seen on screen since. Throughout the 1990s, however, Fonda was something of a cinematic "It" girl, appearing in raucous comedies, dramatic indies, intense crime films, and a few of Sam Raimi's productions.

36 years after Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton is back as the Ghost with the Most in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
The juice is loose on home video, complete with a director’s commentary from Tim Burton.
Here are 11 things I learned from the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice commentaries…
1. The film’s title was almost derived from a ’70s horror sequel.
Several other titles were considered for the long-awaited sequel, including call-backs to two 1970s horror sequels. Burton explains:
“There was a lot of talk about what to call [the movie]. One idea was Beetlejuice Rises Again; that was based on Dr. Phibes Rises Again. And then I thought of Beetlejuice A.D., which is a reference to Dracula [A.D 1972], which I love. That’s in there a little bit.
“The thought of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice just sounded mirror-like and simple, so we just landed like that.”
2. The Deetz women compelled Burton to want to make the sequel.

A movie doesn't have to be successful to be a classic. Take "Heathers" — written by Daniel Waters, directed by Michael Lehmann, starring Winona Ryder.
Ryder, fresh off "Beetlejuice," played another death-obsessed teenager. Unlike gothic outsider Lydia Deetz, though, Veronica Sawyer from "Heathers" is in the in-crowd. She hangs out with Westerburg High School's trio of mean girls, all named Heather, but feels disillusioned. So her new bad boy lover J.D. (Christian Slater) convinces her to pull a lethal prank on queen bee Heather Chandler (Kim Walker).
"Heathers" is the template for other biting black comedy teen movies, from "Mean Girls" to "Jennifer's Body." It even inspired a "Heathers" musical! But it only made $1.1 million on a $3 million budget.
Entertainment Weekly's oral history of "Heathers" (published in 2014 for its 25th anniversary) has some explanations for why it flopped. Distributor New World Pictures...
