On Sunday, May 12, 1957, Scala appeared as a guest on the CBS show The Steve Allen Plymouth Show (1956) to plug her appearance in The Garment Jungle (1957). She broke down after Allen asked his first question, began crying, and had to be led off the stage and taken back to her hotel. A spokesman for CBS later said that Scala's behavior was due to stage fright.

Memorable in The Guns of Navarone (1961) for her role as a Greek resistance fighter who presumably had been so horribly tortured by the Nazis that she became mute.

Was cast by Universal to play the role of Mary Magdalene in a film originally to be titled "The Galileans," but the movie ended up being scrapped.

Is interred next to her mother at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California, USA.
