Gene was the youngest of five boys. After the family moved from Kentucky to California, young Gene was an extra at the movie studios which he continued through high school at night. After he graduated from Fairfax High in Los Angeles where he enjoyed being a stage hand in the drama department, Gene married Alice Bryan, a former Rockette, who later worked as Librarian for RKO Studio. They lived in Hollywood and had no children. Gene's profession as a film and television Editor garnered him many awards.
