For the last few years, Paramount has been giving the Friday the 13th movies they released in the 1980s 40th anniversary steelbook Blu-ray releases. The original Friday the 13th got its steelbook release in 2020, and you can pick that up Here. Friday the 13th Part 2 got its steelbook release in 2021, and you can buy that one at This Link. Friday the 13th Part III followed its predecessors in 2022, and you can get that steelbook Here. There was no Friday the 13th movie released in 1983, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter didn’t come along until ’84, so I was wondering if Paramount was going to wait an extra year to release a steelbook for that one… and the answer is no. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is getting a steelbook Blu-ray release for its 39th anniversary, and it’s already available for pre-order on Amazon!

Friday the 13th has been considered unlucky since October 1307 when King Philip IV of France ordered the executions of all of the Knights Templars because God was “not pleased.” It was a bloody beginning to a long tradition.

But not every Friday the Thirteenth is unfortunate, no matter how much blood gets spilled. For example, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was very lucky.

I’ve long been a fan of The Last American Virgin, no doubt due to my obsessions as a teenager with the ingenue that is Diane Franklin. Having enjoyed Better Off Dead (where she played a French exchange student Monique Junot) and then caught her “stirring” performance in Amityville 2: The Possession I was eager to see more of the sctresses ample charms. And that’s how I discovered Boaz Davidson’s The Last American Virgin…

The film follows three friends, Gary (Monoson), Rick (Antin) and David (Rubbo), as they stumble from one sexual escapade to the other, taking in nymphomaniac Latin dance teacher Carmilla (Moritz), a red-headed hooker who gives them crabs and a bevy of teenage girls eager and willing to give it up for a line of coke and a dance.

★★☆☆☆ Unlike the majority of previous films to have resurfaced via the esteemed Arrow Video label, the years haven't been particularly kind to 1982's The Last American Virgin - a grandiose title which suggests some kind of a smutty coming-of-age epic, but in reality only manages to deliver the grubby goods sporadically. Brought to the screen by infamous eighties producers Yoram Globus and Menahem Golan, the film is almost a virtual shot-for-shot remake of Lemon Popsicle, their bawdy paean to sixties American youth culture which was shot in their home city of Tel Aviv (and effectively launched the duo's careers).

Transplanting the tale of three shamefully horny teens to actual American soil - and set a couple of decades later than the original - Popsicle's director Boaz Davidson was also lured back on-board. With a budget which looks to have been mostly swallowed up by the purchasing of major jukebox hits...

While they may not necessarily be the villains and get all the glory, there's something to be said for the douchebag characters of the horror genre- they often add to the drama of any given situation, they generally complicate things and they make it oh, so fun to hate them.

That being said, I thought it might be kind of fun to look back at some of my favorite douchebag characters of the horror genre- past and present. The only rule? They aren't the film's "big bad." Be forewarned, though: If you haven't seen some of these films, this countdown may get a little spoiler-y for you.

So, in the immortal words of Kanye West, "Let's have a toast for the douchebags" and check out some of this writer's favorite unsavory characters in the horror genre of all time.

Anyhoo, moving on - this cliff-hanger from last season, wasn't so much a hanging-off-cliff moment, waiting for Lindsay to fire the bullet and put us out of our misery in not having to watch her macho posturing and inflating nostrils, for too long, and kill Casey. This was CSI:ny's (TV) attempt to give this bland character some backbone and make her interesting, failing miserably. It'll never work, Lindsay's not your average Cat (Marg Helgenberger) or Sara (Jorga Fox) from CSI (TV) who can portray bucket loads of...

Chicago – The reboot of “Friday the 13th” was another financially successful notch in the belt of Platinum Dunes, the film company behind the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher,” and “The Amityville Horror”. Making $90 million worldwide and more domestically than any previous Jason Voorhees movie (that didn’t include Freddy Krueger), “Friday the 13th” has a following that will be ecstatic with the excellent Blu-Ray release for the slasher title.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Blu-Ray of “Friday the 13th” delivers everything fans could ask for. Not only do they present a longer and better cut of the film in the 9-minutes-longer “Extended Cut,” but the special features enhance the “Friday the 13th” experience and the technical transfer is nearly flawless.
