Few directors can legitimately lay claim to one major horror franchise. Wes Craven is the rare mastermind behind two. Early in Wes Craven's 1984 horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street," the character of Tina (Amanda Wyss) has a violent dream about the demonic, blade-handed Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). Freddy has been stalking the dreams of all the neighborhood teens, and the nightmares are so vivid that they fear for their lives. Tina dreams that Freddy is chasing her down an alley, that he cuts off his own fingers and feels nothing, and that he can teleport into her bedroom.

The Paris Theatre, one of the most prestigious cinemas in the Us, is no more. A notice of closure was posted in August for what was the last remaining single-screen cinema in Manhattan. Ron Howard's documentary Pavarotti on Luciano Pavarotti was the final film shown at the 581-seat palace located on West 58th Street off Fifth Avenue near The Plaza Hotel. The ribbon for the opening of The Paris Theatre was cut by Marlene Dietrich in 1948.

MTV and Dimension TV have debuted the full trailer for the second season of its "Scream" TV series. Series regulars Willa Fitzgerald (Emma), John Karna (Noah), Tom Maden (Jake), Tracy Middendorf (Maggie), Amadeus Serafini (Kieran), Bex Taylor-Klaus (Audrey), and Carlson Young (Brooke) all return for the new season set several months on.

Although one mystery was solved in Lakewood on MTV’s Scream series, a new one was just beginning at the end of the show’s inaugural season, and several new photos from season two tease troubles ahead for two of the survivors.

Fans of MTV and Dimension TV’s Scream TV series know that the mystery behind the Lakewood murders is far from over and will be further explored in upcoming episodes, and it’s just been announced that the show’s second season will premiere on Tuesday, May 31st.

MTV announced the Scream Season 2 premiere date on Facebook via a new poster (see below).

Wes Craven might not have invented the Boogeyman, but he sure did perfect it.

When Craven unleashed Freddy Krueger onto the world in 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, he became the architect of every bad dream every ’80s horror kid had for ten years. It’s not a responsibility Craven took lightly. For the rest of his career until his death in August of 2015, Craven remained one of the horror genre’s greatest defenders and ambassadors. As if that wasn’t enough, the man who created Freddy Krueger made another film just to answer for him with Wes Craven's New Nightmare, the seventh(!) in the Elm Street series and the best of all the sequels. He unleashed the boogeyman on all of us and, understanding its power, attempted to reclaim it a decade later.

When I was a kid, I was taught that horror movies were things to be avoided; Violent, sadistic, even satanic items made by sick people. Which of course only made them more intriguing. On our trips to Blockbuster I would sneak down to the horror movie isles, this forbidden place, and look at the ghastly images of monsters and mangled bodies on the covers, only imagining the horror they contained.

In 1984, Wes Craven made A Nightmare on Elm Street and gave a physical face to our childhood boogeymen. I was far too young to see the movie, but that didn’t matter. If one glances around at the Movie-to-tv adaptation landscape, things are looking surprisingly good. Hannibal is the best show on television right now, Fargo was one of the best surprises of last year and looks like it will continue as such in its second season this fall, and now MTV is adding one more Movie-to-tv adaptation to its roster; shout out to MTV’s other Movie-to-tv breadwinner Teen Wolf, a show that is totally unashamed of how ridiculous and heightened it is and succeeds because of it. MTV’s Scream is so far surprisingly not terrible in the same way that Albert Pujols is playing surprisingly not terrible baseball right now–it’s a comfort, but you still expect more.

I never would have thought I would watch as much MTV as I do. Once upon a time, MTV was a must-watch for music videos, and maybe weird cartoons like Beavis And Butthead or Liquid Television. Other than that, I never really had a lot of engagement with MTV or its programming. Then Teen Wolf came along, and everything seemed to change for the former Music Television. Now they're producing some great TV, attracting great ratings in their demographic, and killing it on the teen horror front. Teen Wolf wasn't enough; now the network is reaching into its bag of nasty tricks and unleashing a television adaptation of Scream on the world.

MTV's bringing some scares to San Diego, offering two horror genre panels for fans to attend at this year's Comic-Con: a Scream: The TV Series panel on Friday, July 10th, and a Kevin Smith-moderated Teen Wolf panel on Thursday, July 9th.

Press Release: "Santa Monica, CA (June 25, 2015) – MTV will take San Diego Comic-Con by storm with the return of Comic-Con favorite and hit drama series “Teen Wolf” for the sixth time and convention debuts of highly-anticipated shows “Scream: The TV Series” and “The Shannara Chronicles.”

For the first time in network history, MTV will be on-the-ground with its own branded booth, giving fans an all-new interactive experience when they hit the floor of the San Diego Convention Center. Fans will be treated to exclusive swag and the opportunity to meet and get autographs from a slew of MTV talent set to stop by.

In addition, MTV will once again sponsor the Sdcc wi-fi.

“You can’t do a slasher movie as a TV series,” posits the new resident meta-expert of MTV’s Scream, Noah Foster (John Karna). The token nerd argues that slasher movies burn bright and die fast, bodies piling up within minutes and the big reveal happening a sleek 90 minutes later. TV is more languid, giving ample opportunity to build up characters just in time to, in the case of the opening seven minutes of this new Scream, slit their throats. “You have to care. You have to root for them. So when they are brutally murdered, it hurts.”

I’ve spent approximately 41 minutes with this gaggle of hyper-aware, alcohol-guzzling millennials, and maybe the most surprising thing about the show is that, in all the efforts I put against it and its overly cutesy advertisements, I cared, and it did hurt.

If there’s one modern franchise I revisit several times a year, it’s Wes Craven’s Scream series (yes, even Scream 4). Ever since Drew Barrymore first took that ill-fated phone call, I was hooked and through three sequels, I’ve been there every step of the way, rooting on Sidney Prescott and hoping to see Ghostface dispose of his victims in the goriest of fashions.

Now that Scream is heading to the small screen with MTV’s new television series iteration, which begins on June 30th, those in attendance last night at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival had the opportunity to watch the first episode during a special red carpet event at the Regal Theaters at La Live. After making quite an impression at the Stanley Film Festival, Todd Strauss-Schulson's meta horror hit, The Final Girls, will screen at the L.A. Film Fest next month, along with an advance look at MTV's Scream TV series and many more onscreen scares.

The 21st L.A. Film Fest takes place June 10th-18th in downtown Los Angeles. The festival will feature screenings of 74 feature films, 60 short films, and more, including the following genre offerings:

Joel Gretsch (V, The 4400) has exited the cabler’s forthcoming TV adaptation of the big-screen franchise, and his series-regular role as Sheriff Hudson will be recast, TVLine has learned exclusively.

According to sources, producers opted to take the character — the small town’s “charming, charismatic, capable” lawman — in a different direction.

This marks Scream‘s second major casting switcheroo; Arrow‘s Bex Taylor-Klaus was tapped over the summer to replace Reign‘s Amy Forsyth in the role of artsy loner Audrey.

I have no idea what to expect from the upcoming Scream-inspired TV series being developed by MTV. One of the last things we heard was that the series wouldn’t even feature the iconic Ghost Face mask, which kind of makes the series pointless, because that was Scream’s staple. But there’s a new bit of news that could mean otherwise.

There’s a report from Bloody Disgusting that indicates that they may actually pay homage to the original films after all. They say that the series will recreate the classic opening scene from the original Scream, and it will supposedly take place in the first episode of the series. That opening sequence is one of the most infamous horror scenes in movie history.

After MTV announced that the network’s Scream adaptation had been picked up to series, news spread that the show did not have the rights to use the iconic Ghostface mask that is synonymous with the franchise. Well, it looks like next Halloween will bring Scream to television after all. We have had casting rumblings and rumors concerning the Ghostface but now we know we have release details.
