American jazz trumpeter, from a musical family (mother was a pianist, his brother played clarinet and guitar). Lost his right arm in a streetcar accident as a child, hence his nickname 'Wingy'. Became a professional musician in his teens, wearing a prosthetic arm during performances. Played in territory bands and on riverboats during the 20's, before forming his own group, the Harmony Kings. Manone joined Benny Goodman in 1929, later leading bands in Chicago night spots and in New York. In California from the early 40's, he was regularly featured on Bing Crosby's radio show.
