Brian Alan Lane

Briana Lane (formerly Brian Alan Lane), BA, MFA, JD, is a novelist, nonfiction writer, media commentator, attorney, professor, and screenwriter, whose bestselling book, "Cat and Mouse", was described as "A masterpiece... that could have been concocted by Vladimir Nabokov" (The Boston Book Review, by a reviewer who otherwise detested Prof Lane and her Hollywood history).

Speaking of that hideous Hollywood history whose primary purpose was to pay off exes and cover party trips to France, Prof Lane very much enjoyed writing and/or producing more than one hundred television pilots, series, episodes, feature films, and omnimedia exhibitions. Series include "Remington Steele", "Hunter", "MacGyver", "In The House", "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (yes, the "Elementary, Dear Data" episode), and many others. Her diverse short fiction and media commentaries are published in literary journals and periodicals worldwide. One such story, "Body of Work", was adapted to film and became an Official Selection of the Newport Beach Film Festival and the Bel-Air Film Festival, and others. Prof Lane's script for "Where Do The Balloons Go?" was directed by DGA Master Director and relentless award-winner Robert Butler, and became an Official Selection of the Newport Beach Film Festival and the Bel-Air Film Festival. Both these films were screened at Sundance as special selections of SONY during the annual Film Festival there.

Prof Lane was, for a time, Publisher of the renowned literary journal "Sweet Fancy Moses"; is the creator/writer/producer of the Sci-fi Podvision Performance Novel "The Peacemaker"; is the writer of "A Tiny Tale" (a synaesthetic story and art fairy tale for adults), is the muckraking whistleblowing troublemaking writer of "THUG The Book" (a massively followed on-line tale of higher education and US academia gone bad), and her pre-retirement day job was Professor of Writing, Production, and Comedy at CSULB, where she created and helmed the sui generis inter-disciplinary MFA Degree Program in Dramatic Writing (through the Department of World Literature and Classics, the Department of Film and Electronic Arts, and the Department of Theatre). She is the Founding Artistic Director and Executive Producer of the CSULB SONY Premiere Film Festival, and Founding Artistic Director Emeritus of The William Link Theatre.

Prof Lane is a member of the State Bar of California, the writers organization PEN USA, the Dramatists Guild, the Mystery Writers of America (where she presently serves on the Board of MWA Northwest), and the Writers Guild of America (where she has been honored with the award of Lifetime Active Membership and a place on the TV Credits Policy Board -- the latter conferring her legal status as an "expert reader").

Prof Lane's original play "The Caterer", which she wrote and directed (inspired by her dark comedy feature film script about a man who sells you your appropriate death, and which, back in the day, had been championed by Francois Truffaut and was optioned through his aegis), starred LeVar Burton, James Liao, Angelle Brooks and Cynthia Watros, had its world premiere at The Whitefire Theatre in Los Angeles, running April-May 2009, earning nominations (and an award!) from the NAACP Theatre Awards and the LA Valley Theatre League Artistic Director Awards.

Now actively retired to the Kitsap Peninsula, Washington, Prof Lane enjoys a lovely artist-wife, 3 dogs, and 1 kidney. You do the math.
