Widower Ram Kapoor lives a very wealthy lifestyle in Bombay, but is very lonely, as his only child, a son named Rajesh, lives abroad, and his aged dad, Diwan Bahadur, lives in the village. Ram frequently throws lavish parties to overcome this loneliness. This changes when Rajesh returns home, and he is able to convince Diwan also to return so that the three could live together. Shortly thereafter differences crop up between Rajesh and Diwan - initially on love and marriage; then on Caste issues; then the marriage of Rajesh, which is arranged with Diwan's friend, Thakur Janak Singh's daughter, Rukmani, while Rajesh wants to marry Monica. Things come to such a pass that Ram decides to leave, takes to women and alcohol in a big way, and becomes the subject of a big scandal. Ram returns home after Diwan and Rajesh apologize and agree to live together in harmony. This harmony does not last long as soon Ram finds out that his very own father and son had conspired against him in a charade to get him to return home just to avoid further scandal. Watch what Ram does this time when bitterness and acrimony reinstates itself in the Kapoor household.

Ratan (Randhir Kapoor) is an illeterate horse carriage driver, who has dedicated his life to provide for his sister, Padma's (Hina Kauser) education. He meets with a gypsy girl Kohili (Babita), and falls for her. She eventually also falls in love with him. Her brother, Shankar (Roopesh Kumar) is smitten by Padma, but Ratan will not hear of him marrying his sister. Padma does finish her education with honors, and goes off to the city to attend college, there she meets with rich and wealthy Prasad (Jateen) and both fall in love. Back home, Ratan has to work day and night to order to meet with Padma's educational expenses. Prasad introduces Padma to his mom (Sulochana), who approves of her immediately. When the family attempts to finalize a marriage date, they find out about Ratan's profession, which they frown upon, but are shocked to know that her father is in prison for murder.

The exuberance of youth influences two college going lovers to edify their headstrong parents. Kedarnath Bhargav, his wife, Laxmi, and two sons, Ram and Lakshman are homeless. While traveling, their train derails and the family is separated into 3 groups. While Laxmi works as a maidservant in the house of Bombay's Mayor and his daughter, Rekha; Ram has been abducted by a career criminal, and Kedarnath & Lakshman are together. Ratanlal Verma, a kind-hearted man, with a son named Prakash comes to Lakshman's rescue, is run over by a truck, and becomes a cripple. Kedarnath and Lakshman re-locate to Ratanlal's village, Raampur, and they live together as one family. Years later, Prakash has grown up, and has re-located to Bombay, where he finds employment with a jeweler. When Ratanlal does not hear from him for 2 months, they ask Lakshman to go to Bombay and ensure that Prakash is alright. Upon arrival in Bombay, Lakshman finds out that Prakash has been arrested by the Police for killing a man named Kundan Kumar, he is subsequently found guilty, and sentenced to be hanged. Lakshman takes it upon himself to find out who actually killed Kundan, and dons the guise of Louis D'Souza and gets himself enrolled in the Serpent Gang. What Lakshman does not know is that the leader of this gang is Kumar, who is none other than Ram, and when he finds out he must make a choice - either to save Prakash from the gallows or turn his very own brother in - to be hanged until death.

Vijay lives a wealthy lifestyle with his widowed grandmother in a palatial house. He spends all day in bed, and all night in the company of at least one girlfriend. He travels to Kashmir, has an affair with beautiful Gita, spends the night with her, and even poses as her husband. Upon his return to Bombay, he loses his heart to gorgeous Sunita, who also falls in love with him. All this comes to naught, when Sunita finds out that he has a girlfriend in Nita, not knowing that Nita is only employed with Vijay's firm. Nita's positive influence does get Vijay to mend his ways, and he decides to introduce Nita to his grandma so that they can get married. But a surprise awaits Vijay there when Gita arrives from Kashmir along with her brother, Pyarelal and a small child, she claims is Vijay's. Watch what impact this has on Nita and Vijay's grandmother, and on Vijay, who must now get used to being a husband and father.

Raju comes to know that a wealthy woman named Kamini has run away from home, and a reward has been placed in all newspapers. He finds her, pretends to fall in love with her, steals her necklace, and takes her back home to her oppressive uncle, who wants her to get married to Ranjeet. Kamini manages to run away, this time weary of running into the cunning Raju, who she had fallen in love with, only to fall in the clutches of a criminal don by the name of Shankar, who not only has her necklace, which was bought from Raju, and plans to ensure that she is returned home. Kamini escapes again, only to run into Raju, who she now finds in the company of a woman named Roma and a child. Alone, and nowhere to turn to for help, Kamini must now decide whether to take her life or surrender to her uncle's wishes.

Haridwar-based Neelkanth Pandey and Shambhu Nath get their children, Bhagwantiprasad and Parvati respectively, married. Whille Shambhu re-locates to live in Bombay, Neelkanth continues to reside in the same residence. Years later both children have grown up, so Neelkanth invites the Naths to finalize the nuptials. Very soon the Pandeys will face humiliation and ridicule at the hands of Parvati, who now calls herself Pamela, and Shambhu, who wants his daughter to marry someone sophisticated and wealthy, while Parvati is in love with a singer named Rocky. Bhagwanti is determined to fulfill his parents' wishes and decides to stay wed to Parvati, re-locates to Bombay, to try and woo her back - with results that will end up changing his life forever.

Beautiful Sapna lives with her wealthy father, Dhanraj, and a younger brother in a palatial house. Her father comes across some valuable diamonds and conceals them in a secret place. While driving one day, Dhanraj is killed, but her brother escapes without any injuries, but loses control of his vocal chords unable to tell anyone how the accident occurred, and goes missing. After Sapna wins a beauty contest, she travels to Bombay and meets with a young wheel-chair bound soldier named Gopal, and both fall in love with each other. What Sapna does not know is that Gopal is a fraud, a con-man who is only after her money. Then her life is even more complicated after she finds out that her father was killed by a man named Diwan. Before she could think of taking any further action, Diwan and his men track her down - their goal to find the secret location of the diamonds hidden by Dhanraj - and kill anyone who dares to get in their way.

Mohan Lal lives in a small rural town in India with his mother, and twin brother, Shankar. In order to improve their lifestyle, Shankar decides to re-locate to Bombay, with hopes to find a job and find accommodation for his Mohan and their mom. Mohan keeps in touch with Shankar through regular mail. Then one day a man named Raja Karan Singh visits them in their small tenement, tells them that he is Shankar's employer, gives them some money to pay for necessities and rent, and asks them to accompany him to Bombay to have his mom medically treated. After his mom recovers, the Raja asks them to live with him in his palace. When Mohan and his mother insist that Shankar be re-called back, they find out that Shankar is dead, and that the person responsible for his death is none other than Raja himself. The police are involved, they arrest Raja and charge him under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code - a charge that may lead to a death sentence. It is then that Mohan finds out that the Raja did not kill Shankar, and he races to overturn the judgment, as well as find the real killer, before the sentence is carried out.

Shankar is a hoodlum who lives in a shanty hut with his pregnant wife, Kanta, and makes a living as a career criminal. He prays to Lord Shiv that if he is blessed with a male child, he will ensure that the child does not take to his path, but instead grows up to a decent and honest human being. His wife does give birth to a baby boy, and Shankar loots the ill-gotten gains of another hoodlum named J.K.. A furious J.K. hunts down Shankar in an attempt to abduct his son, but Shankar takes his child and switches him with one belonging to renowned stage artist, Ashok Kumar. Shankar gets into a scuffle with J.K. and his men, killing one of them, getting arrested, tried in Court, and being sentenced to 14 years in jail. Kanta passes away, while Dharam is left in the care of a wrestler, Bhim Singh, and a mid-wife, Ganga. Dharam is taught to be a hoodlum, but wants to focus on becoming a singer, while Ranjit has taken to alcohol, gambling, and a life of crime under J.K. himself. After his discharge, Shankar finds to his delight out that Ashok has brought up Ranjit and both are stage actors. Then his world descends into chaos when he finds out that Ranjit is in fact Dharam, while his very son, Ranjit has taken to a life of crime. Angered at Dharam, he beats him up and asks him to be a hoodlum like himself, he also beats up Ranjit and asks him to obey Ashok and follow in his footsteps. Watch as things spiral out of control when a vengeful J.K. abducts Shankar and holds him hostage - the ransom - the dead body of Ashok - at any and all costs - and the person chosen to carry out this task is none other than Dharam!!

Ram and Sita Singh have been married for several years and have two children, a son and daughter, named Bhola and Munni respectively. Shankar a simple villager comes to Bombay in such of work to improve his financial condition but circumstances force him to take up smuggling.

When they realize they are related, they decide to expose Sonia, and open Teja's eyes, not knowing that Teja is completely blinded by Sonia's love, and will not let anyone to come between them.

The course of events however reveal that Mangal Singh is in reality Bhola's true brother. Also Bhola's lady love, played by Rekha will not let him commit suicide and chides him for running after money. The police however have already recognized Bhola as dacoit Mangal Singh.
