The death of one of his former colleagues peacefully while fishing makes Philby feel like his death was a loss to the "business" and sets out to engage again with his former profession advising on a series of high-tech bank robberies. Meanwhile Samantha agrees to allow a folk group on a comeback/charity tour to use her shop and garden as a venue. However when the band's manager is found murdered, Samantha finds herself personally invested enough in the band to get involved in the investigation especially when Chief Connors seems content to go for the easiest answers.
It speaks volume about the lazy part of my character I think, but whenever I see these TVM daytime mystery things come on TV part of me does want to watch them. I know that I shouldn't encourage them but sometimes the easy tone, comforting feel and twisty but unchallenging plots make for pleasurable and easy viewing. With Mystery Woman I have enjoyed some of them on this basis and, mostly, Sing Me a Murder is just more of the same. After a terrible setup the film gets going and it blands its way across the running time without any great effort or flair. In doing this it just about provides entertainment in the way that soft music does it doesn't do anything for you other than soothing and providing a background. Of course I understand those that would say that something tasteless and bland is not worth the time and generally I do agree. The series, and this film in particular, are very soft and harmless and it is only when in the most undemanding mood that you can watch it.
Sing Me A Murder is contrived and all too convenient in the plotting but it does have a gentle pace to it and those that like the other films in the series will find this to be more of the same. Martin is pretty and non-threatening without an inch of sexuality about her thus perfect for daytime TV. Williams is terrible here flicking a switch between emotions unconvincingly and never making a character so much as just doing what the scene requires. Siemaszko is endlessly bland and seems happy with it. Sander does his usual grumpy character to solid effect.
This is far from a good film but it is an OK Mystery Woman film. Watch it if you are looking for something just to doze in front of as this is inoffensive and bland but if you want anything more than that then this will only annoy and disappoint with its banality.
