Long time since I watched this movie. I found it on DVD for cheap, so I figured I'd give it a try. Maybe it was a forgotten gem?
No such luck.
Sure, there are a few laughs, like when a village woman suggests Chevy Chase can "kiss her on the veranda," and he responds: "The lips would be fine." Hahaha!
But, the occasional laugh doesn't make up for how much this movie drags in the second half.
What was that contraption Steve Martin was shackled to in the dungeon? A torture device with a gear that could be accessed by the prisoner? And, why did his captors toss the keys on the floor inside his cell? Makes no sense, even for a silly movie.
The message toward the end was nice: the village fought back using their own special skills...of tailoring. But, as the Amigos rode off into the sunset my main emotion was gladness that the picture was done.
Not recommended.
