Wicked Obsession

I just watched this obscure porn video and added it two decades late to IMDb, after a brief search revealeld its origins. Spurred by the fact that the footage made no sense and had no continuity scene by scene I discovered that it was merely a mix of scenes released 4 years earlier on the two VHS features "Dirty Pictures" and "The Mischief Maker" -no new footage but not your traditional compilation video.

Comparing the three movies, the seven scenes of "Wicked" are randomly ordered from its two predecessors, rendering the story line unfathomable. What's interesting here is the underlying gimmick: the casts of actors overlap so much that the newest release has the same players in scene after scene to try and fool the viewer.

What is surprising is the same actor or actress playing multiple characters: not a stunt like those classic movies featuring Alec Guinness or Peter Sellers playing numerous roles to great effect, but merely a fake.

Megan Leigh stars throughout, but her drastically different look and hair styles are a dead giveaway. She was memorably striking introduced as a clown in full makeup as the title character in "The Mischief Maker", but is a different character from "Dirty Pictures" (a movie themed around erotic photography) in the rest of "Wicked".

Confusingly, the new release starts off with Krista Lane as a photographer, shooting sexy sets of Megan and later Billy Dee, but disappearing entirely midway through the show. Taking over the lead without warning is Tracey Adams. The sad fact for me (which led me to trying to make sense of it all) is that the underlying assumption behind this disdain for the audience is that fans (and unfortunately industry "reviewers" who regularly consider only Scenes rather the Movies when reacting to a new release) only care about sex acts depicted on screen, and relegate the NonSex and story material to the "skip or fast-forward past" waste bin.

So while Krista and Megan make a hot team in the couple of scenes represented here, those scenes do not a feature make. "Wicked Obsession" is basically a fraud, and stands as a warning from way back in 1991 to what would become axiomatic in the porn industry by now: hire sex workers to shoot a "hot scene" and be done with it -long-form porn is now merely assemblage of scenes, as witness the proliferation of websites offering even full movies cut into individual chunks. The irony here is that moving picture porn consumption began as stag films, peep shows and later 8mm mail-order shorts, certainly the stags resembling the current "1 minute story, 40 minutes sex" current approach.
