Avis à la une
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was delighted by just how much Barry Watson leaned into the ridiculous. In fact I spent most of the movie focusing on his antics. There really isn't anything else surprising here, it's pretty much by the numbers of a standard Hallmark, Lifetime or Netflix holiday flick. But really nobody watches these type of films looking for new ground. However, it was fun watching the writers rework the Nutcracker.
A remarkably believable performance from Barry Watson as Chip, the Nutcracker. A beautifully restrained script means this comedy-romance is -- pleasantly -- higher on the (gentle) comedy than on the romance. Definitely in the top tier of Christmas TV movies.
A cute and slightly cheesy romantic comedy for the holiday season. Very family friendly. No nudity, bad language, gore, and only sparse and very light innuendo. Doesn't dive into any crazy explanations of how Christmas works, Christmas doesn't have to be saved, and the romantic drama is light.
Suspend your disbelief, sit back and enjoy.
Yes the story is wacky. But Barry Watson is absolutely terrific selling his character. And he has great chemistry with Melissa Joan Hart
Did I say that Barry Watson is great in this movie?
What can you say about a magical twist on a popular Christmas legend - the Nutcracker. Lots of silliness. A plot that obviously juggles around a lot of contrived circumstances to fit into a TV version of the famous story.
The acting is exaggerated at times and other times a little serious or a little romantic. There's a hero and villains and a fairy princess to win all in a setting resembling anyone's modern day home town. I'm sure the actors had fun doing it.
It fell a little flat for me but it's creative and with the right expectations will be very enjoyable for many.

- AnecdotesKate tells Chip that her cookies and brownies are named after family members. The first one is the Sabrina Snickerdoodle, an obvious reference for the Melissa Joan Hart fans, to her character in "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch". The other names are Joe, Aviana, Bella, Clover, Dizzy Izzie, Oliver and Paula. She says Aviana is her niece, which is true - Melissa really has a niece named Aviana. The name Paula is clearly a reference to Melissa's mother Paula Hart.
- GaffesWhen arriving at the theater, Kate is being repeatedly shushed by the audience while she's yelling at Chip, and she finally shushes the audience right back; at that moment an extra right behind her--a blonde lady wearing a pearl necklace--can't help herself but grin broadly and sweetly at Melissa, thereby breaking character: she, (along with the rest of the audience) is supposed to be very upset at Kate for yelling so much and disrupting the peace, but we can tell from that lady's sweet smile and tender look at the actress, that she was amused by how well Melissa performed her aggravation in that scene. This goof turned into a very cute moment.

- Crédits fousAt the beginning of the closing credits we see a closeup of the nutcracker winking it's right eye.
