Last Song for You

The director capture Cheung Chau island in a low-contrast and saturated Japanese style, using the simplicity and tranquility of the village to convey the purity of love. The color grading, cinematography, and locations are outstanding and also reflect the director's deep influence from Japanese films like "Love Letter" (1995).

Natalie portrays Summer's liveliness and tenderness, adding considerable energy to the story. Unfortunately, the age difference between Ekin Cheng and her creates an awkward feeling for me, as it resembles a father-daughter dynamic.

The story's twists are unpredictable, introducing fantastical elements to what initially seems like a typical pure love story. However, the ending feels superfluous, leaving viewers confused. The story would have been complete without the excessive fantasy scenes.

For me, this story is not just a typical love tale but also offers the audience, especially creators, a chance to reconnect with their past intentions and hopes.
