Granted, I hadn't not heard a single word about this 2020 movie titled "Almost Human" from director Nan Zhang prior to getting to sit down and watch it. And I must admit that with the relatively low score the movie have ranked on IMDb, I was a little bit hesitant to sit down and watch it. But still, I did so, as I enjoy watching movies I haven't already seen.
Personally, I liked "Almost Human". Sure, the storyline was generic and so straight forward that events in the movie were predictable, and the ending during the end credits just was atrociously pointless, but still the movie was actually enjoyable and entertaining to me. I liked the storyline.
The special effects in the movie were, for the most part very good. The effects on the robot were good and I really liked that. The CGI when she was running and jumping around were, well, let's just say not so good. And the things they added to the Chinese city scenery to make it presentable as being futuristic, just didn't really do the trick.
They had a good ensemble of actors and actresses to perform in the movie, and I will say that the performers definitely carried the movie a great long way with their individual and combined efforts.
I found "Almost Human" to actually be a fresh breath of air into this particular style of sci-fi movies that revolves around robots and their impact on society and human life. So I was entertained by what the writer and director delivered.
My rating of "Almost Human" is a six out of ten stars. I found it to be a nice surprise, and it definitely is well-worth watching. And I am saying this as someone that is not usually watching a whole lot of sci-fi movies.
