I LOVED this movie!Anyone reading those first comments, DISREGARD them completely. It had a perfect plot line and good acting.Anyone who says differently stinks at judging movies. This is not only a good movie for kids, but a good movie for anyone who likes good movies. I'm surprised that this movie didn't get better recognition.I would sponsor having this movie made into a DVD with bonus features and things like that if i had enough money.I don't understand whats wrong with it.No wait, there's nothing wrong with it, its just the people who just commented on it! They have shown lack of movie knowledge. I am a person who has seen many movies. I know my movies, OK? Obviously, the negative statements made about this movie were made by unexperienced people who have no knowledge about movies. It had everything a good movie should have: plot line, good acting, humor, and above all a great set. I mean it really looked like a beanstalk was growing out out their backyard, no low budget props here. All in all, I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good humor/family movie. note:DISREGARD THE FIRST STATEMENTS!!!
Beanstalk is a really dated and really stupid movie that had failed awfully to adapt Jack And The Beanstalk. I'm not saying everything is wrong adapting old stories that's set in a modern world. Films like Onward and Hoodwinked do find a way to make it good films. But this one is not the case at all. The writing makes a terrible execution. The story is illogical. The humor is filled with stupidity. The visuals look like they belong in a school play. The actors have overacted. And the characters are absolutely obnoxious. And honestly, this truly deserves to be forgotten. In fact when I searched the reviews for this on YouTube, there were only a very few. That's good for most people online since nobody else is talking about this. Maybe it will be one of those films kids would used to like but grow out of it. Other than that, this is not worth the headaches. The only thing the movie would be known for is nothing but a stupid and dull mess.
Jack was portrayed waaaaaaay toooo animated/over the top/over acted/etc!!!
Definitely a cheesy Lifetime Network style movie!!!
If you're completely bored and have watched everything else available and this is the only movie available for you to watch, then maybe give it a chance.

"Beanstalk" is, of course, a live-action version of "Jack and the Beanstalk". The only thing of any substantial interest is the performance of Margot Kidder. She is so loopy in this film that it is downright disturbing. Kidder takes on the role of a mad scientist/archaeologist with reckless abandon. She truly seems a bit unhinged.
The two main child actors are Patrick Renna and J.D. Daniels. Daniels plays the title role of Jack with all of the emotion of a banana. Renna is more experienced and does a decent job. It doesn't matter, though, because he is trapped in a hellishly awful movie.
The story is too dumb even for kids to enjoy. Richard Moll plays a banker who wants to foreclose on the whole town, tear down all the buildings, and fill the entire area with water. The plan is to make a mint by owning pricy lakefront property. Umm...okay. Anyway, for reasons I won't go into, a giant beanstalk grows in someone's backyard and a couple of kids climb all the way up it to see what's at the top. I was personally hoping they would find a better script up there but they didn't.
One more thing...the scene towards the end featuring the giant stomping around the small town has to be seen to be believed. Give Roger Corman a hundred bucks and even he probably could've come up with something more believable. It's that bad. 1/10

- GaffesThe giant tablecloth's red and white checker pattern is far too small. It is, upon closer inspection, simply a regular sized table cloth design.
