The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast: Telly Savalas (1974)
The bald-headed star of Kojak is the main attraction here as Mr. Savalas has to sit in the chair with countless celebrities throwing jokes at him. Some of the roasters include Howard Cosell, Dom DeLuise, Angie Dickinson, Don Rickles, Richard Roundtree, Martin and Rowan, Robert Stack, Shelley Winters, George Kennedy, Peter Graves, Phyllis Diller and Rich Little. I doubt anyone is going to say this is the best episode from the Dean Martin roasts but there are still enough good laughs to make it worth watching. Needless to say, the real comics like Rickles and Martin and Rowan are the ones who have the best material but Cosell manages to get some nice jokes in as does a cameo from Casey Kasem. Dean Martin does a nice job hosting, although he certainly isn't as into the jokes as usual.
Episode: B
