Following the release of Sonic 2: La película (2022), Jim Carrey announced that he was considering retirement, and said he would only return to acting if "the angels bring some sort of script that's written in gold ink that says to me that it's going to be really important for people to see." Producers Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher stated that Carrey's role as Dr. Robotnik would not be recast if he followed through with his plans, but remained hopeful that he would be willing to continue the role if the script was satisfactory to him. They would eventually sent him a script for this film printed it out with 24-carat ink. In February 2024, he was confirmed to reprise his role, making it the first time Carrey has starred in more than two films as the same character.

Errores
When Ivo and Gerald Robotnik are dancing through the laser room, their suits protect them from getting hurt by the lasers. However, their heads are completely unprotected by the suits, yet they came out without a single scratch on either of their heads from the hundreds of lasers in the room. Though Ivo does imply that the suits generate thermo-reflective fields which could cover his and Gerald's heads to protect them from the lasers.

This was a pleasant surprise. As a father who has spent days of my life sitting through the first two entries, I'm so relieved that the series shifted into a new gear.

The character development hit harder, the action was more exciting, and the humor hit new highs. The villains were three-dimensional and it was a joy spending the movie with the trio of Knuckles, Tails and Sonic operating with fully-formed friendship. It wasn't without nits to pick - I personally found the editing to be noticeably choppy at times - but the pros well outweigh the cons.

I can't stress enough that people familiar with the series will get a new and welcome take on how the series operates. Same chassis, new engine.
