The Wolf of Wolf Street on the Island of Peace

Mister Wolf, having grown tired of war, retires to the Island of Peace with his wife, daughter, son and cockatoo to an idyllic life -- until oil is discovered.

This heavy-handed piece of anti-capitalist propaganda -- what would you expect from Soyuzfilm in 1949? -- is a parable of the need for the peace-loving Soviet Union to defend itself against the smooth-talking but rapacious capitalists. 1949 was the year, after all, that the Soviets exploded their atomic bomb.

Although I don't care for the style of cartooning -- semi-realistic humans -- the artwork in this piece is quite lovely, with a watercolor aspect to the background work.
