A virtually incomprehensible film which features four vaguely aware Pacific Northwest post-adolescents wandering aimlessly around a scenic tip of Washington State and babbling semi-coherently to eachother. It's interspersed with brief depictions of paranoid hallucinations and the usual dollop of cinematically gratuitous sex.
The photography is nice, though. In fact, it's too bad there had to be a soundtrack, since there's comparatively little action and the dialogue is generally unenlightening.
The movie reinforced every negative stereotype I've ever had about people in that neck of the country.

What is an overused trope - friends go away and bad things happen, could still be interesting if explored well. This film does not do that, nor does it ever really try. Too much of what happens (I use that term very liberally) is unexplained or makes little sense.
The acting is flat. It has no pace.
I will explain the film without revealing any of the plot, as there is no plot, this way -Long periods of nothing are punctuated by scenes/events that make no sense. Skip this one. There are plenty of better options in this genre. If the objective here was to bore us to death, then this film succeeds.

A strange and engrossing mindbender of a film. Beautifully shot in the Pacific Northwest, and edited with the kind of weird touches you'd expect in a David Lynch film, Skagit is a unique indie from a writer-director with a strong visual sense and something to say. You have to be willing to give yourself over to the trippy, unexplained narrative, and not expect all of your questions to be answered. Wonderful audio design and a great soundtrack of under-the-radar music cues. Think of Tarkovsky's "Stalker" meets "Twin Peaks". If you fancy yourself an independent film director, why not make a film that doesn't feel like every other film out there?
It's amazing that anyone would go through all that trouble. She makes such a nice visually stunning movie and not put in its actual story. There is nothing in this movie that actually tells any kind of story. It is very pretty and very nice visually the sound and the cutting and mixing of the movie are nice quality, but someone forgot to put in a plot or a story, it's just as if they took all their time it took all their time to cut. It took all their time to put in music and forgot to add because maybe they did it all the pieces. I don't know. It would be a really really good movie if there's an actual story in it. It makes me want you go shoot a movie in the Skagit and whatcom county area and actually put in a storyline and produce a visually stunning story with the fantastic music that we have around this area. I can think of many stories that could be told. It's really unfortunate that anyone could spend any type of money on any type of project Without it being a fully understood idea by anybody else besides the writer and director mean that I missed the plot or something.

- TriviaAbout his inspiration for making the film, writer/director Nick Thompson said, "When the Northwest is presented on film, it's often with this sheen of drone-like perfection, which obfuscates the unique attraction of the landscape and the sensibility of the people who inhabit it. Alternatively, its unusual natural character isn't referenced at all. Skagit is a corrective to that: Shot entirely on location in the Pacific Northwest, it foregrounds the primeval atmosphere of the Skagit Valley as it molds, terrifies, and eventually destroys the minds of the four friends."
