This film has an interesting premise.
That's about as far as my good-will towards this film goes.
Unfortunately it just doesn't do anything with that premise that is engaging or interesting to me. Maybe it's because I'm neither catholic or Irish, but it just didn't connect with me in any shape or form.
It ends up being a slow, turgid affair with me not really caring a jot about any of the main characters the director tells me that I should.
Tonally it's all over the shop too, ranging from comedy to sadness in the blink of an eye.
A jarring eyesore of a film if ever there was one. You can see the intent, but it fails in the delivery.

As other people have said, David Hyde Pierce steals the episode here, as his character of Niles goes through the ringer at the hands of Maris once again.
It's a great script from the legendary David Lloyd to start with, but all the little touches that Pierce brings to it are lovely. There's a silent scene that is just a joy to watch also.
I like the fact that the episode ends with all three Crane men together, a bit battered and bruised by their recent romantic failings. Yes, 'Frasier' can do big comedic moments, and there are lots of them here, but it also does the tender ones very nicely too.
A very good episode.
