Moon Studios have proven themselves as more than capable of crafting visually stunning and immersive gaming experiences. The Blind Forest and The Will of the Wisps are two of my personal favourites, and No Rest For the Wicked, version 1.0 at least, feels like yet another breathtaking experience in the works. The visuals, the music, and the animation are all on point, and the story, while still incomplete, grabs your attention and makes you want to know what happens next.
There are problems, of course, and most of them are gameplay related. The difficulty is still way too high, even with Maximum Armor and XP. Large weapons take too long to swing, and small ones don't do enough damage to feel satisfying, at least in my experience.
But things like that can still be fixed, and if the team at Moon can afford to stick around, a better game will surely come because of it. I don't know how to feel about the online discourse surrounding the negative reviews. Some say Moon accuses the audience of review bombing, while others say the gaming media is trying to make them look bad for reasons known only to them and a small community of industry insiders trying to call them out. The only thing that's clear, to an outsider at least, is that the studio is struggling to stay afloat, and it's only with encouragement and support from the gaming community (both moral and financial), that they canstick around.
If you're a fan of games, and you're a fan of Moon Studios, and you want to see this game earn the appreciation it strives for, then please support them however you can.
This is less a review, and more a call to support a struggling team, so they can, at worst, finish what they've started, and at best, live on to provide us with even more breathtaking experiences.
Thank you.
