Rip Torn and Roberts Blossom shine in "Balloon Farm", a smart fantasy film from "Disney". Intriguing enough for adults and children alike, this colorful movie deals with overcoming hardship by believing in the impossible. Several twists keep the outcome in doubt, and maintain interest. The supporting acting varies from accomplished Richard Riehle, as the store owner, to the overacting Neal McDonough, as the sheriff. Nobody will care, because it is such a feel good film, it holds together no matter what the faults. For something different than the usual animation, I suggest giving "Balloon Farm" a try. This movie concerns a mysterious farmer who moves into a drought-stricken farming community and begins raising a very unusual crop. The The movie benefits greatly from the presence of Rip Torn as the farmer and Mara Wilson as the young girl who befriends him. Wilson proves again that she has charm and charisma when in the right film. Fun, light-hearted film with a message beneath the froth.
