Many would describe my journey to Hollywood as a bilateral twist of fate. It was bilateral in that I told other people (who had a need to know) exactly what they wanted to hear, 'He is most definitely going to college,' and at the same time, I was telling myself, in the words of a great singer by the name of Gladys Knight, "He's on his way, he's busting into Hollywood."
Not meaning to sound vainglorious in any way, but I remember my first day in Hollywood, I remember thinking to myself, 'Why should I waste my time doing anything else other than getting myself a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, my first six months in town.'
A few years later, I am right in the middle of another bilateral twist of fate. I am telling myself exactly what I need to hear, "I am most definitely going to become a consummate entertainer, and I simply love every minute of it." I am telling other people, in the words of another great singer, Nat King Cole, the famous lines from the song Nature Boy, "The greatest thing you will ever learn, is to love, and be loved in return."
