During the years of the Third Reich, served in the SS as an
SS-Obergruppenfuhrer (General) and as Chief of Staff to Heinrich
Himmler. Was later Supreme SS Commander of Italy (depicted in the film
"Scarlet and the Black"). One of the very few SS leaders found not
guilty of war crimes after World War II.
