I don't know what else to say: this film blew me away. The original story of Sophie van der Stap was adapted quite effective on screen. Her book "Girl with Nine Wigs" was a bestseller and I'm sure it's a good read based on what I've seen in the movie. The cast is perfectly assembled and I could feel with the lead actress Lisa Tomaschewsky going through the painful times along funny and sarcastic scenes. The family and friends of Sophie are nicely involved in the story and all the loving and caring is purely authentic. Even the tension with the angry sister and some disputes with friends make a nice contrast so the story is not presented cheesy. Sure enough there are a lot of tears running down the screen but I admit it made me cry a lot during the movie. All the drama and the acting works effective with the soundtrack.
Within 2 hours of running time you feel for a character that is hungry for life, fighting for life and is not giving up easily. Lisa Tomaschewsky looks hot as hell even with the wonderful wigs or as a bald head. If you let it, the film puts life into perspective and hopefully you will cherish the little things more after watching it. A very warm, powerful and transformative film.
