As a home gardener I found this show informative, entertaining and educational. It covers a variety of subjects, not just gardening. How to coexist with the nature and how to work with the environment.
Jamila is an excellent host who explains what and why of each episode. Just a really informative show.
I happened to find it accidentally and am so glad I did. Binge watched the last two seasons and cannot wait for season 3!
Thanks HBO! Please plan more episodes of this show and advertise it! This is better than anything on HGTV, I have told all my gardening friends to make sure to watch and I will continue to!

This show teaches families and viewers how to grow their own food in their own space. The episodes are bite-sized and great to watch every now and then. The host is a treat, I love how she really educates and cares for the people she works with. Garden techniques, building farm animal shelters, canning, and so many facts about fruit and vegetables are featured in this show and it's great to watch for anyone interested in things of that nature. The new season, season four, has really been fun to watch. It feels like the show has come a long way since the first episode. The transformations and camera work are stunning as well, it all feels very authentic and unique for the genre.
I want so bad to like this show. The premise is great, a family wants to have veggies in their yard and jamila comes in with her team to make that happen while teaching us all about plants. Sounds great to me.
Unfortunately it seems like Jamila isnt knowledgeable or charismatic enough to carry the show on her own. What happens is we are forced to learn a bunch of uninteresting things about the family who are obviously forced to say the things they say. So much focus on the kids is so forced too.
From the multiple episodes i watched, we get the same solution / layout of the yards. "Ok, we're going to add some IRRIGATION!!!! And some RAISED BEDS!!! And ill bring in my GOATS!!" Same thing everytime. Skip this show.

This show is seriously amazing and needs to get bigger and bigger. Jamila is awesome and every episode teaches us something new - usually more than just one thing. Telling all our friends and family about this to get the word out! Good shows are rare now a days.

I suppose if I had a huge yard and could afford to hire a crew to transform it into what I envisioned, I would love this show. But being of more modest means, I was hoping to find something that would show me how to transform my yard on a budget. This ain't it. I was also surprised that she didn't install things like drip irrigation, but maybe in Atlanta that's not necessary? Anyway, I have moved on to the British show Big Dreams Small Spaces, which is much more up my alley. It's about using sweat equity to transform your yard on a very tight budget, And the host explains everything in great detail. Financially, I am somewhere in the middle of these two extremes. Because I am older I can't do the heavy work myself, but I can afford to hire someone to do some of it.
